168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering went way out of its way to give its Lord of the Rings crossover the love it deserves. Between normal versions, scroll frames, ring frames, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:scene cards, and so on, there's no shortage of variants and alternate arts for these cards. 'Rock Poster' variants are easily the most ambitious (and controversial) art for this set.

It's not just The One Ring that is precious, there are plenty of valuable cards♔ from MTG's Tales of Middle-earthꦏ Special Edition Collector Boosters.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Each mythic rare in the original LotR set received a rock poster reskin meant to evoke a rock band aesthetic, including everything from psychedelic vibes to heavy metal carnage. They prioritize collectability over playability, but they're still incredibly jarring to decipher and have been met with mixed opinions. Full credit: The art on these cards is phenomenal, but they're a bit bombastic as Magic game pieces.

20 The Watcher In The W𓆏ater 💧

MTG LOTR - The Watcher In The Water

Not everything in LotR has to be dark and brooding, but 'silly' doesn't quite fit. The Watcher in the Water is a menacing creature, yet the band poster version makes it look like one of those elastic squeezable octopus toys.

A swing and a miss for a card that's already pretty forgettable.

19 ♎ 💙Hew The Entwood

MTG LOTR - Hew the Entwood

Fitting that one of the most underwhelming mythic rares also gets one of the least interesting poster versions. If this was somehow your first time ever seeing this card, you might even miss the crucial "Sacrifice any number of lands" text since it's playing 'Where's Waldo?' in the middle of the card for some reason.

The Ent in the foreground also gives off strong Easter Island statue vibes, which comes off just a bit too comical, wha💞t with being murdered and all.

18 💖 𒉰 Shadow Of The Enemy

MTG LOTR - Shadow of the Enemy

Maybe it's the lack of actual shadows or the Comic Sans-esque font used in the card text, but this version of Shadow of the Enemy isn't as imposing as it should be, especially when you consider this could be the name of an actual death metal band.

♓The card itself is also quite underwhelming, which definitely detracts f♈rom the appeal.

17 ✨ Dawn Of A New Age

MTG LOTR - Dawn of a New Age

Dawn of a New Age isn't that far off from an old-school Woodstock poster, and the symmetrical art is appreciated. Most people are going to get excited about the character-related posters, not the story beats.

If you're a fan of Aragorn, you probably want the poster of, you know, Aragorn, not a plot point picture.

16 ꦕ Arwen, Mortal Queen

MTG LOTR - Arwen, Mortal Queen

This illustration and design for Arwen is fantastic, but the actual MTG elements take away from that. This card gets cited when certain players talk about their dislike of alternate arts and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Universes Beyond products, and it's easy to see why.

Looking to pick up a few cards from the Tales of Middle-earth Special Editon but n🐽ot sure what to grab? Check out these powerful cards from the set!

Imagine you'd never seen the original card before; can you tell what the casting cost is? Do you know the 1 in the activation cost is part of the card and not some belt buckle? Can you even read the text below her hair? It's a great LotR piece but a questionable Magic card.

15 Spi♉te💦ful Banditry

MTG LOTR - Spiteful Banditry

Spiteful Banditry's killing it in the metal poster department, but it's not really capturing the feel of the story moment it depicts. It's definitely a foreboding standalone illustration, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:but the Dwarves are hardly visible in the art; plus, this just looks like a black or black-red card at a glance.

To give it some credit, it's one of the more legible cards in a sea of indiscernible textboxes.

14 Tom Bombadil 🦩

MTG LOTR - Tom Bombadil

ꦅThe poster art for Tom Bombad🤪il is actually closely in line with the original art from the main set, which works in its favor. The card name is the only real complaint here; it has the feel of an ookie-spookie Goosebumps paperback, and the entire name bleeds together.

If you didn't know who Tom Bombadil was, you'd be excused for thinking the name was Tombo M. Badle or something similar.

13 Gandalf Th🐠e ﷽White

MTG LOTR - Gandalf the White

Gandalf's poster art is... busy. No space went unused on this card, which makes it more bizarre that the character in question makes up such a small portion of the art. Remove the text and ask a non-LotR fan who this is and some percentage of them might say Moses.

It's still fantastic artwork at the end of the day, but it'd be nice to see Gandalf more prominently featured in his own card art.

12 🦹 𝕴 Saruman Of Many Colors

MTG LOTR - Saruman of Many Colors

The actual Magic card in question here isn't doing this poster version any favors. The original's already been heavily meme'd on due to its verbose rules text, and squeezing all of that onto the poster version is headache-inducing.

The artist nailed the 'many colors' part of the name, making the art pop much more than the original's dark and muted color palette.

11 R🅰adagast﷽ The Brown

MTG LOTR - Radagast the Brown

Radagast's art is clean, unified, and feels like the character it represents—bonus points for the 𓄧happy little squirrel in the window.

It's slightly bothersome that the power and toughness box is on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the left side of the card, but it's visible and fits the geometry of the art well enough.
