Summary

  • At 8/20, Ancient Adamantoise has the highest toughness of any creature in MTG.
  • All it takes is a stiff breeze to completely break him.
  • It won't take you an hour to kill him this time.

It's not just sales records 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy crossover is breaking: the cards themselv💃es are setting new standards for the 32-year TCG.

One of the cards just revealed for the set features not just an infamous Final Fantasy 15 boss, but also the highest toughness we’ve ev🐓er seen on a legal, playable MTG card.

Ancient Adamantoise MTG card.

Ancient Adamantoise is a mythic rare found in the main Final Fantasy set. It costs f༺ive generic and three green mana, but for that you get an eye-wateringly big 8/20 creature with vigilance and a ward cost of three generic.

An 8/20 on its own would be bad enough, but this thing redirects all damage dealt to you or other permanents you control onto itself, effectively blocking the next 20 damage you take. The downside is that, unlike most creatures, you don’t remove damage from the Adamantoise at the end of your turn; it just stays there until it eventua🎃lly dies.

The value train doesn’t stop there, though. When it dies, you then exile it and make te💧n treasure tokens – giving you back access to more mana than you paid for it.

I Like Big Butts And I Cannot Lie

Adamantoise takes the cake in terms 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:of toughness, beating out Zendikar Rising’s Charix, Raging Isle. That crab had a frankly pitiable l🅺ooking 17 toughness in comp🅰arison, and didn’t have any power compared to Adamantoise’s impressive eight.

It also beats out cards like Impervious Great♛wurm (16), Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (15),and Death’s Shadow (13).

Big Furry Monster

However, if you’re looking at every Magic card ever printed, the biggest is still - and likely always be - the B.F.M. (Big Furry Monsters) from Unglued. This isn’t a leg🐎al card, limited to only silver-border games, but with a toughness of 9999 it is still technically🅺 the biggest butt on a creature, absolutely dwarfing Ancient Adamantoise.

The Turtle’s All The Way Down

Not content with just being🍸 a big honkin’ creature ready to block just about everything, Ancient Adamantoise breaks with a ham sandwich. Give it indestructible and 𓂃hexproof, and the only way your opponents are dealing any damage to you is if they have a mass board exile or forced sacrifice.

The funnier thing to do, though, is cheat its death trigger. If you tee it up with♏ a card like Not Dead After All or Kaya’s Ghostform, Ancient Adamantoise will return to the battlefield before it can be exiled by its death trigger. Because the Treasure token part of it isn’t dependent on it being exiled (there’s no “if you do”,) you’ll still🌄 make ten Treasures.

And, of course, aꦗny cards that care about toughness will adore Ancient Adamantoise. Arcades the Strategist or Felothar, the Steadfast can make it deal damage equal to its toughness instead of power, making it hit for 20 instead of ‘just’ eight. Or if you want the Treasures, throw it to a Momentous Fall to gain 20 life, dra🍎w eight cards, and make ten treasures, all for just four mana.

Ancient Adamantoise launches as part of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:wider Final Fantasy set on June 13.
