At Hasbr❀o's , chief executive officer Chris Cocks revealed how staggeringly successful Final Fantasy has been. "In terms of Final Fantasy and how it met expectati📖ons, I'll give you a comparison between two of our biggest [universes beyond] at the onsets," Cocks began. "Lord of the Rings took six months to deliver $200 million of revenue. Final Fantasy took one day."
"And we left the maꦗrket wanting more," Cocks continued. "And our expectation is there's going to be a nice long tail of backlist for the product. Likewise, we're still selling Lord of the Rings product today [...] We expect Final Fantasy to be no different."
Success Story
While Final Fantasy has the poten💖tial to be the best-selling Magic: The Gathering set for years to come (or perhaps ever), Wizards of the Coast is also finding success in other facets of the Magic ecosystem.
Tarkir Dragonstorm is "on pace to become the top-selling Magic premiere set of all time," and organised play is booming, with a 40 per cent𝓡 year-on-year increase in unique players during the first half of 2025.
That's a very corporate sentence, but Magic: The Gathering is undoubtedly flourishing on the back of very successful crossover sets. However, it seems unlikely that Marvel's Spider-Man and Avatar will re🅘ach the peaks of Final Fantasy, which seems like a perfect storm crossover for the age demographic of both Magic: The Gathering pla🌸yers and long-time Final Fantasy fans.
Cocks also touches upon the subject of players who identify as female, which has reached 30 pe🍰r cent of all Magic players. He says they're starting to target this demographic by "poking into romantic" and not to be surprised "if you see us looking at K-Pop bands."
I'm not sure if anyone is looking for a Le Sserafim Universes 🧸Beyond set, but I'm absolutely sure that plenty of people would buy it nonetheless.
