The whole Yakuza fandom was taken by surprise when it was revealed that Kiryu would be suffering from cancer in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Being told this beloved protagonist, known for his strength and passion, would be brought low by such an awful disease is heartbreaking and, after everything Kiryu has been through,♕ feels particularly unfair when the poor guy has been trying to quietly retire for years now.

[Warning box] There are big plot spoilers f💦or Like a Dragon: Infinite W🅰ealth ahead so don’t continue if you want to experience the storyline for yourself.

You don’t have to wait too long when playing Infinite Wealth to find out how this diagnosis came about, with Kiryu explaining to Kasuga and the team at the end of Chapter Three that he has been given only half a year to live, before detailing how he belieꩲves it happened during the opening cutscene of Chapter Four.

Like a Dra🌱gon: Infinite Wealth chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto answered some of our most burning questions durinꦑg a Q&A.

While working for the Daidoji Faction in 2020, Kiryu helped out in a toxic waste storage facility, taking waste from decommissioned reactors. An accident occurs that sees Kiryu being his typical heroic self and trying to save someone in need, only to inhale the toxic fumes in the process. Kiryu goes on to explain that the waste was mean🐠t to be low risk, and that as a result, he can’t be sure that’s what gave him cancer.

However, narrative📖ly speaking, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio wouldn’t throw this out there without cause. Kiryu could have just been diagnosed with cancer in some run-of-the-mill check-up, a far more mundane event that seems far more likely. But the team went to the effort of giving us this flashback to countless toxic waste drums and a poor guy having a heart attack while on a forklift truck. It’s a conscious decision that was made, but I can’t tell whether it’s clever or stupid.

My gut reaction to this scene was to condemn it. Scoffing at how daft it seemed that Kiryu, secret agent🌠 or not, was randomly working in a to꧂xic waste facility for some bizarre reason — because apparently a secret agent of his skills has nothing better to do — and this is how he got slapped with his unfortunate fate. Yet the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if I wasn’t giving this plot device enough credit.

Kiryu is often lauded as a hero 💦and is even likened to Superman in Infinite Wealth. Perhaps this unfortunate incident is a clever play on the idea of how superheroes are made in comic books. He didn&rsqꦏuo;t get to hulk out after gamma radiation exposure or get special spidey powers from a radioactive bite, he got cancer.

The harsh truth is that even ‘superheroes’ like Kiryu are only human after all. For all the wild and quirky things that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios throws our way with giant transforming castles or great white shark boss battles, there’s still this dose of reality that one of ✃the most beloved characters in the series ca꧑nnot live forever. The more I think about it, the more I’ve come around to the idea. Even if it does still seem a bit daft that Kiryu was dabbling in toxic waste, it wouldn’t be an RGG Studio game without something being a little far-fetched.
