This build offers the quintessential Bladedancer experience. Using hidden blades, smoke bombs, and shadow clones, you will dart around the battlefield, taking down groups of enemies almost instantaneously. While this build has the potential for massive damage, you'll also be vulnerable to attacks yourself, meaning you'll always need to play carefully.
The core of this build is Umbral Blades and Shadow clones. With the Umbral Blades skill node Cacophony of Steel, your Umbral Blades will become Bladestorms that deal continuous damage in an area.
You can then pair this with the Umbral Remnant node that makes your Shadows leave an Umbral Blade behind when they expire, and the Umbral Assault node for Smoke Bombꦬ to create additional Shadows. What this combination of skills leads to is a wave of spinning Umbral Bladestorms covering the screen, damaging everything in tꦛheir path.
This leveling build will take you from a fresh character to around level 60. If you optimize your passive points, skill trees, and equipment, you can start doing Monoliths around level 45.
Skills And Passives
Your main damaging ability for this build is Umbral Blades. This skill unlocks at level 16, so we recommend using Puncture (unlocked at level 5) until then. When upgrading Umbral Blades, focus on getting the Cacophony of Steel node as quickly as possible. Then, put four points into Steel Torrent and one into Loathing. From there, unlock the Umbral Remnant node.
Smoke Bomb is an incredibly versatile skill that contributes to this build's damage and survivability. Here, you'll want to prioritize upgrading the Umbral Assault node to its max level, then put five points into Smoke Blades for tons of additional damage. The Lingering Fumes node is also important for keeping Smoke Bomb up longer, which in turn generates more Shadows.
Stand in Smoke Bomb's cloud as long as possible to stack damage from Smoke Blades.
Synchronized Strike is another important component of the damage in this build. The important nodes to unlock first are Coordinated Cuts for armor shred, Umbral Assassination for tons of added damage, and Perfect Coordination to stack all hits of Synchronized Strike into one location, greatly increasing its damage. You can also unlock the Wave of Darkness node for even more damage with Shadow Cascade.
Shadow Cascade is mainly used as a secondary cast when combined with Shift, and provides some nice utility. The Onslaught and Fight in the Shadows nodes will help retain Mana, while putting four points into Shadow Flourish will buff your physical damage after hitti💧ng enemies w🔯ith Shadow Cascade.
Dagger Dance adds thrown daggers to Shadow Cascade, making it easier to trigger Shadow Flourish. Additionally, Rapid Expanse greatl𒀰y increases the radius of the ability, allowing it to hit more enemies at once.
Finally, we are using Shift as our main mobility skill. Shift is very strong in this build thanks to the Lasting Presence and Dancing Shadows nodes, which allow you to create a shadow when you use Shift, which will then cast Shadow Cascade at the area you Shift to and from. Swift Recovery, Shadowslip, and Elusive are all🌊 very strong defensive nodes to pick up as soon as possible.
Passive Trees
For this build, we'll be using the bare minimum of 20 points in the Rogue tree, then pouring everything else into the Bladedancer tree. There are tons of ඣgood offensive, defensive, and utility passive nodes in the Bladedancer tree that we want to make the most 𒁏of.
For the Rogue tree, stack up on Swift Assassin, then grab one point in Guile to unlock Evasion and Agility, two great defensive nodes that will boost dodge chance and your ability to gain haste. Also, be sure to get Twin Blade to unlock dual-wielding.
In the Bladedancer tree, put points into Pursuit, and Once for tons of additional damage. Eventually, you'll want to put one point into Cloak of Shadows to unlock Shroud of Dusk and Veil of Night, which you'll want to max out.
A few other important nodes to unlock are Blood Dance for some nice health stealing, Flash of Steel for increased damage while dual-wielding daggers, and All In for greatly increased critical strike damage.
You may want to hold off on unlocking All In until your critical strike chance stat is higher.
Important Stats And Uniques
As you level up and find new gear, there are a few key stats you'll want to look out for. Keeping these stats in mind can also help when crafting your loot filter. For this Bladedancer build, we are focusing almost entirely on damage, relying on skills like Shift to stay alive. That said, her💜e are the most important st𒀰ats for this build.
- Levels of Umbral Blades, Smoke Bomb, Synchronized Strike, Shadow Cascade, and Shift.
- Physical Penetration
- Critical Strike Chance

Uniques To Look Out For
Thankfully, this build isn't reliant on any Uniques to excel. However, if you're lucky enough to drop them, there are a few standout Uniquesꦡ that can elevate this build.
- Thorn Slinger: This belt has +1 Level of Physical Skills, giving you an additional skill point for all your skills except Shift. Additionally, you'll gain a bit of increased attack speed and movement speed.
- Jungle Queen's Chaps of Holding: This is a great Belt that provides increased physical damage, dexterity, and potion slots. Plus, you'll gain increased dodge rating after using a potion.
- Bleeding Heart: This Amulet grants a decent increase to Throwing Attack Speed and Life Leech at the cost of inflicting you with Bleeding when you use a spell. Luckily, this build doesn't use any spells.
If you happen to get a Rune of Ascendence, be sure to use it on a Belt for a chance at a Unique Belt. This equipment category has the highest number of useful Uniques for Bladedancer, with Thorn Slinger being one of the best overall.
