The Warlock is one of the Acolyte's strongest Masteries, and a great choice for leveling through the campaꦦign. Below, we'll take a look at a leveling build for the Warlock, including which skills and passives to focus on, and some recommended stats to look out for on your gear.

Build Overview

A Warlock casting Chaos Bolts as Chthonic Fissure erupts with Spirits in Last Epoch.

Pros

Cons

  • Very high damage
  • Fast clear speeds
  • Built-in defense
  • Mana hungry
  • Slow early game

This build relies on a variety of damage-over-time effects combined with Chthonic Fissure to spread massive damage over a large area. In the Chthonic Fissure Specialization tree, we have Chaotic Rupture, which gives the skill a chance to replace the released spirits with Chaos Bolts.

Then, in the Chaos Bolts tree, we can use the Exacted Libation node to give each Chaos Bolt a chance to cast Rip Blood, dealing Physical Damage in an even larger area. This creates cascading waves of damage just from casting a single Chthonic Fissure, applying a number of DoTs and debuffs.

This is combined with Spirit Plague and Infernal Shade to provide even more damage over time.

For defense, we have a few stacking layers, including Ward generation from Rip Blood, through the Arcane Fortress node, as well as the Putrid Recovery node in the Spirit Plague tree, which grants Wa🔥rd when hitting enemies afflicted with Spirit Plague.

Overall, this build has excellent offense, defense, clearing speed, and mobility, making it perfect for running ဣthrough the campaign and getting started in Monoliths🉐 early.

Skills And Passives

You won't unlock the main damaging abilities for this build until you unlock the Warlock Mastery. Until then, you can Specialize Rip Blood and Summon Skeletons, then use these alongside Bone Curse and Wandering Spirits. These will get you through the early game, which i🅷s 🔴fairly straightforward in its own right.

Around level 20, and once you have Warlock unlocked, replace your Skill Specializations with Chthonic Fissure and then Chaos Bolts once you unlock it in the Warlock Passive tree. Also, Specialize Spirit Plague now. We'll be re-specializing Rip Blood later, but for now, Chthonic🎃 Fissure, Chaos Bolts, and Spirit Plague take precedent.

While we don't Specialize in it, make use of Transplant throughout the leveling process to get arou♉nd a lot faster.

Once you have these two skills unlocked, you'll be able to start to see how the build is played. For now, simply casting Chthonic Fissure will be enough to clear most packs of enemies, while sprinkling in Chaos Bolts as needed. For bosses, apply Spirit Plague first for more damage over time.

Once you unlock your next Skill Specialization slot at level 35, slot in Rip Blood again. This tree will focus on increasing Rip Blood's Splatter chance and size, while also getting the Arcane Fortress node to convert ꦅRꦉip Blood to Ward instead of health.

The final Skill Specialization slot unlocks at level 50, and we'll slot in Infernal Shade here. This skill is mainly used against bosses for high damage over time, so we'll use the Skill Specialization tree to reduce its area while increasin♌g its damage through the Heꦏart of Fire node.

Passive Trees

For the Passive Tree, we'll be putting 20 points into the base Acolyte tree, then everything else into Warlock. For the Acolyte tree, focus on boosting Blood Aura and Forbidden Knowledge, then the Unnatural Preservation node for extra Resistances and Ward Retention.

In the Warlock tree, we'll be getting a mix of damage and defense-boosting nodes. For damage, some of the most important nodes come later in the tree, in the form of Infernal Lash, Chains of Ruin, The Ashen One, and Grimhilde's Domain. These will all increase Fire, Necrotic, and Elemental Damage, as well as grant the Witchfire DoT, contributing even morওe damage.

For defense, Ward of Malevolence is a strong option that pairs well with Chaos Bolts, and Dark Protections grants high Ward per Second.

Soul Stealer is an important node to put points into to help with this build's high mana cost. When combined with the Devour the Damned node in the Chaos Bolt tree, your Mana will♕ slowly trickle back as you attack and go abou𝓡t your rotation.

Cauldron of Blood and Crimson Favors are also important, improving your Bleed Chance and damage. Since Rip Blꦛood is automatically cast by Chaos Bolts and subsequently Chthonic Fissure, these passive 𓆏nodes buff your overall build by quite a bit.

Important Stats And Uniques

A Helmet for the Warlock in Last Epoch.

This build is luckily very gear-independent. Most of the build's damage comes from a combination of Chthonic Fissure's raw power and the strong Passive and S💦kill Specialization nodes available. Because of this, your gear is really just to make your abilities a litt💎le stronger, and doesn't necessarily enable a part of the build.

As you get drops throughout the campaign, be on the lookout for Damage Over Time and Elemental Damage Over Time, as these contribute the highest DPS gain to your skills. Fire Damage and Spell Damage are good options as well.

For defense, anything that boosts your Ward will be good, so Ward Per Second and Ward Decay Threshold. Be sure to boost up your Resistances as well, and any Intelligence you can get will help with a few aspects of the build, like Ward of Malevolence and Exacted Libation.

Here's how you sh🌄ould prioritize your gear's offen𝓀sive stats.

  1. Level of Skills (Chaos Bolts, Chthonic Fissure, Spirit Plague, Rip Blood, Infernal Shade)
  2. Elemental Damage Over Time
  3. Damage Over Time
  4. Fire Damage
  5. Necrotic Damage
  6. Spell Damage
  7. Mana Regen
  8. Intelligence
  9. Cast Speed

And for your defensive s🌃tats, here's what toꦚ look out for.

  1. Physical Resistance
  2. Elemental Resistances
  3. Ward Per Second
  4. Ward Decay Threshold
  5. Health
  6. Armor

Uniques To Look Out For

While there aren'🐲t any Uniques that are required for this build, there are definitely a few that can make it stronger, if you happen to find any of them while leveling.

  1. Advent of the Erased: Good boost to Movement Speed and Haste effects, which pairs well with the Fleeting Crone Passive node.
  2. Blood of the Exile: Another strong option for increasing Movement Speed, boosts Bleed damage, and grants some Intelligence.
  3. Calamity: Greatly boosts Chthonic Fissure damage and improves Ignite damage and chance.
  4. Soulfire: High boost to Fire damage and Ignite Chance, and pairs well with Calamity, giving you increased Armor while you are Ignited.

If you get a Rune of Ascendance, use it on a pair of boots to try to get Advent of the Erased or Blood of the Exile, as either one of these will greatly increase your campaign clear speed. This build is so strong, that you'll hit a point fairl𝓰y early on where more damage doesn't necessarily make you faster, as enemies already di▨e in one or two seconds.

This is why Movement Speed is so strong, as it lets you speed through the campaign and start demolishing Normal Monoliths around level 45 or ea🍒rlier, depending on your gear.
