They are extremely useful, but only in specific situations. You can upgrade the Priest to slightly expand their skill set, but, even after investing all the Musubi needed to max them out, they’ll only excel in a couple of different levels. They're an interesting concept, but too one-dimensional.

Almost every game with a class system of any sort will have a boring member of the group. For Kunitsu-Gami, that’s the Woodcutter. Their masks aren't anything special, and their kits are simply forgettable. They are the villager role equivalent of a 7/10.
Woodcutters are the weakest melee units in the game, and being the only melee role you have for a few hours doesn’t mean you’ll use t♑hem much. You can just use Soh to do their job more effectiꦯvely until you unlock the expensive Sumo Wrestler, or the cheap Spearman.

The Sumo Wrestler is the only true tank class available in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. While better than the Woodcutter, these guys and gals cost 300 crystals, and they’ll rarely make you feel like you goꦛt your money’s worth.
Consider this: would you rather hire a Sumo Wrestler, or six Archers? Sure, the Wrestler will dra༒w aggro away from Yoshiro, but they’ll die quickly if you’re not babysitting them with your Shaman, which costs 150 crystals. Are they worth a 450 crystal investment? Seldom.

The aforementioned Shaman is Kunitsu-Gami’s only healer. It has a reasonable cost and a gorgeous mask, but plays too much 🤡in a “leave and forget” kind of way. You drop them close to the units that will need healing, and you can pretty much forget about them for the rest of the level.

The game isn't hard enough in most village levels to force you into a disastrous situation, and their final upgrade would only be useful in a disaster. Only upgrade it if you want to look at their masks at their prettiest

Thieves would’ve been lower on this list if they weren’t the only role that has an impact during the day parts of the cycle. They are very one-dimensional, and their AI can get very annoying, especially when you get their final upgrade. But they🤡 add yet another level of optimiz🐼ation to your planning stage.
Their grubby hands will get you so many crystals and musubi that you’ll transform your first villager of every level into a Thief. You'll sometimes regret doing it when things get more complicated at night, but with a mask as good-looking as theirs, who really cares?
7 Cannoneer

The guys and gals carrying massive cannons are in the running for the coolest looking role in Kunitsu-Gami, but they fall short of the race when it comes to how good they are. They arᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ♚𒀱ᩚᩚᩚe the game’s only ranged role focused in area of effect attacks, — sort of, but we’ll get to that later — and they’re excellent at their role.
Smaller enemies will be decimated, but not much else. That means that you have n🌳o reason to use Cannoneers in boss fights, or in levels packed with bigger fish to catch. Yet, the💎ir masks look like cool samurai hats, so they get a few extra points.

With the Woodcu꧂tters relegated to staying true to their namesake — spoiler, there are no wooden enemies — Spearmeඣn are your best choice for a melee frontline. They are strong, attack fast and have a generous aggro range.
Priced at♋ 150 crystals, these will be your best choice when you need cheap units to cover your backline, or Yoshiro herself. With th💮at being said, their masks are goofy, which can either be a plus or a minus. It depends on what you’re looking for.

Ninjas are still cool. They were cooler before, but they never entirely lost their luster. Kunitsu-Gami saves them for last and, although they didn’t 🐻end up being the best unit, they were close. They’re tಞhe “leave and forget” role, except done in the best possible way.
300 crystals is a big investment, but they’re worth every one of them. Their AI works well, and they’re a true jack of all trades, able to handle tougher enemies and weaker ones, regardless of ♔them being ground or air units. And, yes, their masks look fantastic.

Marksmen are unmatchedဣ in village levels. When fully upgraded, their range is absurd. Get them to one of those pla൲tforms that increases their reach, and they’ll be shooting enemies before you even know they’re there.
Although they're close to perfect, they are very slow and take ages to reload. This makes them less than ideal in levels in which the sightlines aren’t good, or in which you need to get your units moving. Their masks could also be better, but at least their rifles look great.
