While Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is indeed a Tower Defence game, it is unlike many others i𓄧n the genre. You do not exclusively rely on your Villagers as Soh is a competent warrior in their own right, laying waste to any Seethe that attempt to hurt Yoshiro.

An aesthetic꧟ that will draw you in, and gameplay that will hold onto you tightly.

With that ꦇin mind, you may not know the full extent of everything Soh can do, or how to make them work best with the Villagers. Fear not 🍸for we have compiled some helpful bits of advice that will carry you through the night and have you mastering Soh and the Villagers in no time.

Soh's Base Moveset

To effectively play as Soh, it might be helpful to know all of the moves they have at their disposal. They may seem fairly simple at first, though the little ways in which their moveset can be utilised give it quite a bit more utility than you might think.

In the table below, we've broken down each of Soh's base moves, as well as☂ some core functions you will unlock later.

Move

What It Does

Regular Attack

A series of attacks that can hit up to four times. The move performed depends on the equipped Dance Style.

Dance Attack

Attacks that can be performed in between each strike of your Regular Attacks. Each Dance Attack ends the combo.

Dodging

Soh dodges in the direction you push the stick in while pressing it. This gives invulnerability for the entire animation, though has a long delay afterwards.

Guarding

Soh blocks with their sword to repel both ranged and melee attacks, reducing their Guard Gauge each𒉰 time they are attacked.

Jumping

Soh can jump to reach higher areas, enemies in the air, and perform attacks. Can also perform a wall jump on smooth surfaces.

Tsuba Guards

Soh uses whichever Tsuba Guard is currently equipped. Only the currently highlighted Tsuba Guard will recharge.

Archery

Unlocked through upgrades, Soh fires an arrow for limited damage from their bow. Can also be used mid-air.

Aerial Attacks

Both Regular Attacks and dance Attacks can be performed mid-air. These attacks remain the same irrespective of Dance Style.

That's everything that Soh can do themselves, though many of these are conditional. Archery can be charged to have different effects, Dance Attacks can later be charged to deal massive Resist Gauge Damage, and so on. Make sure you♍'re always us🐼ing Soh's whole moveset.

Oka Dance And Shiden Dance

Soh starts the game with the Oka Dance style, which you might be under the impression is just their way of fighting. Once you've unlocked Soh's ability upgrades, you can unlock a second fighting style, the Shiden Dance. This of𒐪fers a dramatically different style of play. Here's a quick breakdown:

  • Shiden Dance
    • Prioritises damage and being stationary.
    • Has more predictable moves.
    • Uses the same Dance Attack no matter what part of the combo you're on.
  • Oka Dance
    • Let's Soh move freely while attacking.
    • Dance Attack has different effects depending on when they're used in the combo.
    • Lower damage but much faster and easily cancellable animations.

It comes down to personal preference whichever you prefer, but having the second unlocked is great for when you need to change up your strategy. You can change your Dance Style in Yoshiro's tent.

Both Dance Styles have slightly different moves depending on whether you are moving or stationary when you perform them.

Upgrade Soh's Abilities

A full overview of Soh's entire skill tree in Kunitsu-Gami path of the goddess, showing all five categories and the skills within each.

After you defeat Batsu, Soh is (partially) returned to their full strength. In practical terms, this means you unlock Soh's upgrades, which are accessed from Yoshiro's tent in the same place as Roles are upgraded. They come in five categories: Combat, Archery, Oka Dance, Shiden Dance, and Command Screen.

Soh's upgrades are all practical. While you won't get health and attack power upgrades, you will unlock brand-new gameplay mechanics, from greater controls꧙ over how you order Villagers to new interactions withไin stages themselves.

Don't Forget To Upgrade Roles

Kunitsu-Gami features a wide range of Roles for the Villagers, from simple melee units to more specific utility uses. You'll be unlocking more and more of them until you've finish✤ed the entire game, learning which works best in each scenario.

Remember that Musubi can be refunded free of charge at any time if you want to change your upgrade♍s on either Soh or the Villagers.

Just don't forget to actually upgrade them. Every Role comes with health upgrades, though sometimes the new combat abilities will change how you use them. Woodcutters b🌺eing able to chase enemies or Ascetics damaging any enemy in their range can change how you use these Roles entirely.

Always Go For The Resist Gauge

Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess. The Rosokuro enters through the Torii gate.

While Soh has their Guard Gauge to worry about while blocking, enemies are not much different. They have the Resist Gauge, which is present on all enemies at all times. You can specifically see it on enemies with health bars, as it is the yellow wavy line beside it.

Once the Resist Gauge is depleted, the enemy is stunned for a brief period. If you have the Punishing Strike ability, this even lets you unleash an attack on them for massive damage of up to half their whole health bar. It's something you should always be aiming forꦺ.

Charged Dance Attacks are one of the mo๊st effective means of depleting th๊e Resist Gauge quickly.

Use Stage Hazards

While Soh's considerable strength and the unique functions of each Role can cover many scenarios you may encounter, each level has its own unique advantages for you to use.

Many stages will have contraptions the Carpenter can repair like towers for rang🔜ed units, magical gates to block enemies, terrain that slows enemies, and so on. Use these any chance you can as they can block the points your Villagers might not be able to without sacrificing their lives.

Synergise With Villagers

It can be easy to view Soh and the Villagers as two separate entities 🃏with specific purposes. The Villagers remain in place and play to their strengths, whi🧔le Soh covers the spots they miss as a jack-of-all-trades. But this doesn't need to be the case.

Soh and the Villagers can work together in particular terms. Position Soh by a Sumo and they can lay waste to Seethe as they gather around. Put Soh in the effect of a Shaman, and they will heal more rapidly. Use the Spider Shot ability on Soh's bow to slow enemies so Villagers can more easily defeat them. There are countless possibiliti♋es when you put them together.

Don't Fear The Spirit State

Soh in the spirit state as an attendant comes to help Yoshiro in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the goddess.

There are two instances where Soh will enter the Spirit State - during the Adashino Village and Kamakura Shrine missions, and when their health is fully depleted. You see🍬, Soh doesn't actually die. I😼t is their divine mission to protect Soh, and nothing will stop them from doing so, even the concept of death.

The Spirit State can be fearful as Soh loses any and all ability to fight back. They do not, however, lose the ability to command Villagers. Soh can still change their Roles, heal them, and change their positions. Ins🎉tead of waiting for Soh to revive, instead move around Villagers with more freedom to keep Seethe away from Yoshiro𒈔.

One little cheat is the Kijin's Specter Tsuba Guard. Even while Soh i🍬s in the Spirit 𓆉State, their clone will still follow their button prompts as long as they are summoned before entering the Spirit State.
