With games being such a visual medium, it only makes sense that the most prominent aspects of them have to be designs that stick with us. They have to both be something that never tires us out while playing but also become an icon of the game that can stretch beyond the singular play. With 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Kingdom Hearts, that would be Keyblades, likely one of the mಌost recognisable weapons in all of gaming.
Visually, they're a funny and pretty self-explanatory concept. The Keyblade has two parts, the key and the blade. Nothing is ever that simple in Kingdom Hearts though, is it? Of course not, and with Keyblades being at the heart of every game, there is plenty of lore to them that is drip-fed to us over literal decades.
A Brief History of Keyblades
The chronology of Kingdom Hearts is far from, well, chronological. That's not just due to many of the games not following in the sequential order of their release, but also because of the terrifyingly complex time-travel system that makes tracking actual historical events a bit difficult. As such, it's a little easier to discuss the beginning as established before the Dark Seeker Saga which the mainline games encompass.
Long before Sora, Aqua and even Xehanort, there was The Master of Masters. Fitting with the Keyblades' incomprehensible nature, the Master of Masters simply says he doesn't know where they came from. They always existed for him and others.
He does have his own way of creating Keyblades, which involves rea﷽ching into the Heart of an individual and physically extracting their Keyblade, manifesting it into reality. From here, Keyblades spread ac💦ross the world of Daybreak Town, until suddenly the Master of Masters vanished.
'Hearts' in Kingdom Hearts are a distinct part of a person that is both physical and metaphorical, though is distinct from the anatomical heart. However, Kingdom Hearts also has a concept of 'Souls' and 'Body', so it is important to go off in-game definitions.
Over time, knowledge of how Keyblades were created was lost entirely with many assuming they came from Kingdom Hearts, or were born of the χ-Blade, an ancient Keyblade that was shattered in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Keyblade War long before the events of any of the games.
It's a bit confusing due to all the mistrust between 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Foretellers, apprentices of the Master of Masters, and the Book of Prophecies, though the most important thing to understand is that all modern Keyblades are derived of the χ-Blade, at least in their esign.
By the time of the mainline games, Keyblades are vastly more mysterious, awakening only to a selected few and remaining theirs. There's not an exceeding amount of information on Keyblades within these games, focusing more on how they are tied directly to each person's Heart, and how the ties between peoples' hearts can affect this.
How Are Keyblades Created?
In short: we don't know.
As mentioned, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Master of Masters probably knows and simply never shared the secret. In the remainder of the games, we see people acquire their Keyblades either through intentional training with Aqua, Terra, and Ventus, in situations of dire importance like with Sora when Destiny Islands was consumed by Darkness, or by those who had a Keyblade bequeathed unto them.
The Keyblade's Abilities
The abilities of the Keyblade are immense. Beyond the obvious abilities of the blade part which does, in fact, serve as a very effective weapon, the key ൩side of it is actually incredibly relevant.
Keyblades are intrinsically tied to the Hearts of Worlds, and this allows them to seal and unseal their keyholes, granting access to the Heart of a World. They are also linked to the Hearts of people, which is what allows Sora to also wield Ventus' keyblade as a result of their bonded hearts. Of course, this also invites the Heartless, constantly in search of new Hearts.
Beyond this, Keyblades are also natural vessels for magic. Magic isn't an incredibly detailed system within Kingdom Hearts due to the shared lore aspects from both Disney and Final Fantasy, though Keyblades are still capable of amplifying these powers and directing them.
Keyblades also allow one to use the Power of Waking, provided they possess the power themselves. In short, this allows one to travel across the Hearts of Worlds and people, though i꧃ncorrect usage has dire consequences.
The Forms Of A Keyblade
While it often seems like Sora can equip different Keyblades through the games, this is not actually the case. Instead, it is always his very own Kingdom Key but with a different keychain attached. There's no real lore attached to keychains, though it can be assumed they hold aspects of the world or individual they come from, imparting some of that onto a Keyblade.
In these changed forms, the Keyblade can take on an entirely unique form and gain new abilities. However, Keyblades can also undergo a "formchange" that allows them to alter their effects and appearance dramatically without the us🌱e of a keychain.
This is first seen in Kingdom Hearts 2 where Lingering Will turns their own Keyblade into a cannon, whip and plenty more. In Kingdom Hearts 3, Sora can change his Keyblade's form as well, ranging from guns and cannons to... a frying pan.
In Kingdom Hearts 3, Keyblade transformations known as 'formchanges' as introduced. Despite the similar name, these are distinct from Drive Forms, which are tied instead to Sora's clothes in Kingdom Hearts 2.
Among this, Keyblades can also turn into vehicles akin to gliders as shown in Birth by Sleep. Despite the name🍰, Keyblades can turn into plenty of things that are neithe෴r a key nor a blade.
Prominent Keyblades And Their Wielders
Though the original Kingdom Hearts plays off Keyblades as being exceedingly rare, this is in reality due to Sora being one of the few that still holds one, rather than the only one. The gam🥃es expand the roster of Keyblade wielders with each entry, and just 🔜about all of them are important in some form or another.
Sora And The Kingdom Key
Sora, beloved protagonist of the series, is rather ironically the least aware of just about anything going in the the universe. His primary ༺goal above all else is protecting his friends, no matter the cost.
This purity of heart is possibly the reason he was given the Kingdom Key, one that has the ability to seal the gate between the realms of Light and Dark. In the grand scheme of things, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sora isn't actually special. He just has such a p💛urity of heart that he joins with others by chance, and fixes things by choice.
Xehanort And The Gazing Eye
Though Xehanort as a character may well be finished, there is still plenty of mystery surrounding him. The events of his past are still murky, and splitting himself into 13 different parts has made it 168🦄澳洲幸运5开奖网:a🌠 tad difficult to pin down his exact personality, and even his goals.
At his base, he wants to brings balance by washing existence in Darkness to allow it to be started over, which is a bit dramatic. Throughout most of the series, he wields the Gazing Eye Keyblade, one of the primary Keyblades of the Master of Mast🦄ers that supposedly allows him to see everything its user sees.
Master of Masters And The Creation of Keyblades
🌱To give a profile on the Master of Masters is basically impossible at the moment. Everything the man says is a riddle and how much he says that is actually true (or if it has even happened yet) is indiscernible. A♒ll the same, everything links back to him.
Though the Gazing Eye is his primary Keyblade, he passes it on to his favoured apprentice Luxu. The proliferation of Keyblades was an act of his own, and he likely remains as the only person who truly knows how Keyblades came to be in the first place.
The X-Blade
In the grand history of it all, there is no knowledge of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:how the X-Blade came to be beyond legends. The same is true for Kingdom Hearts, the very concept it was prophesied both ཧto protect and counter. 🍃After the Keyblade War, it was shattered into 20 pieces, and has had multiple wielders across its existence.
Most prominent of them has been Xehanort, who has frequently summoned Kingdom Hearts itself with it, and🧔 Sora in his final encounter with Xehanort.
