With all respect to SAG-AFTRA, its rules about AI aren't nearly strict enough. No one should be able to profit off of the work of a digital double. Certainly not corporations, which 💖is what that stipulation about "celebrate[ing] the right of our members and their estates to control the use of their digital replicas" is seeking to address, preventing studios from making a copy of the actor's voice and using it indefinitely without further pay. That shouldn't be allowed. But giving actors the option to create an AI version of themselves that can work for them shouldn't be allowed either. As the Vader AI chatbot shows, it's a practice that will take work from other working actors.
It will result in fewer and fewer roles for actors who a꧅re attempting to ♊break in, and SAG-AFTRA should be taking a stronger stance against it. Vader is only the beginning.
