The last few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions for those of us who have been waiting on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake. It seems that every time I hear about it, it’s because something terrible has happened to damage the chances of it ever seeing the light of day. Just since September, we’ve seen its parent publisher Embracer lose a $2 billion deal and shutter a number of studios, Sony deleted t♏weets about the game and hid its tr💦ailer from the official PlayStation YouTube channel. Then Sony said it delisted the video because the music licence expired. Phew! But then journalist Mike Straw confirmed that Embracer Group and Saber 💎declined to comment🔯 on cancellation fears about the game.

And then, gaming insider Jeff Grubb said that it isn’t being worked on 1♎68澳洲幸运5开奖网:“in any way, at a🌳ny studio”, and that seemed like the final nail in the coffin – it was really, truly over. But wait! Bloomberg&rsquo🍃;s Jason Schreier said that he’d heard from two developers at Saber Interactive who are currently working on the game. It’s alive, then! Well… hold your horses. Just because it’s technically still being worked on in some capacity doesn’t mean that it’s alive in any meaningful way, or that w🃏e’re ever going to see it.

Sometimes, It’s Better To Harden Your Heart

I have written about this remake 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:way more often 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:than is reasonable, considering we haven’t seen anything about it other than a brief trailer in 2021. Taking into account the tumult that Embracer Group has been through in the last year, there is an extraordinarily low chance that we’re ever going to see this remake, in any form. If you were as excited for the remake as me, this is heartbreaking. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I wrote in September that I was still optimistic about the state of the game, but I now realise I🔯 was being naive. We are not getting this game. It’s been in development hell for so long with no positive developments that if we don’t want to get our feelings hurt, again, iꦍt’s best to just not expect anything from it.

Embracer Fumbled The Bag

It’s shock💦ing, because the remake would have been a confirmed money-maker. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most-lauded games of its time, an instant classic that influenced countless RPGs that came after it. That includes Bioware’s later series, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, both of which have huge fanbases in their own right. Knights of the Old Republic didn’t age well – the 2003 graphics obviously look awful in comparison to what we have today, but the turn-based, Dungeons & Dragons-inspired combat system is also unappealing. I have clear recollections of being 12 years old and spamming the critical hit button for every character and then just sitting back and watching my character destroy everybody in the room. That’s how easy it was.

A lightsaber fight in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

This is one of those games where a remake would have actually served its audience. The Last Of Us games getting three remasters and remakes in a♓ single decade is unnecessary, largely because it’s focusing on minor graphical improvements and not bringing the game to a new generation of players. Knights of the Old Republic, though, is twenty years old and came out on the original Xbox. Sure, you can still buy it cheap and play i⛄t on the Series X and S with backwards compatibility, and there are ports for the Nintendo Switch, PCs, Macs and even phones. But sometimes I think about a world in which I could have played KOTOR with modern graphics and a revamped combat system, and my inner child weeps.

I’m choosing not to think about that world anymore. No news about the franchise will faze me any longer. I am protecting my tender heart from the pain of deflated hope.൲ Until there is a released game I can play with my own hands, I will be assuming that the KOTOR Remake is dead. I recommend you do the same.
