Review

Due to its nature as an ongoing multiplayer game, we don't have a direct review for Apex Legends, but multiple site members have given their opinions of the game. Features Editor Ben Sledge has talked about the game at length, from its 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:constantly growing character stories to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:frequent shifts in the meta balance.

I💟t’🎃s a video game soap opera with new episodes every season. The trouble is, it’s hard to keep track.

What Apex Legends has over many shooters is the personality of its heroes mixed with a constantly evolving world. This creates a sense of community around it, extending from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the largest esports tournaments to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:more local competitions.

A shooter needs more than just compelling, evolving characters; it requires gameplay to match them. Apex Legends is much more fast-paced than other battle royales, and each hero's unique abilities help it stand out against its rivals. This is coupled with many maps that encourage frequent speedy skirmishes over drawn-out potshots or camping in a single spot. It plays more like a long-form deathmatch than your more traditional battle royale.

Time Expenditure

As a multiplayer game, Apex Legends has the benefit of simply playing for however long you want, whenever you want. The main battle royale mode takes a small time investment, averaging around 15-20 minutes. There's no strict time limit on matches though they'll be forced to end by the time the ring fully closes, typically within 30 minutes.

Presently, Team Deathmatch is the only other permanent game mode, though these matches take place on significantly smaller maps over a single round, ending once a team hits 50 kills. This will usually take around 15-20 minutes on average as well, though matches will automatically end after 30 minutes.

Core to a hero shooter is its Heroes, and those require a bit more investment to unlock. Though you could spend 750 Apex Coins– the premium currency to purchase them directly– you also gain 600 Legend Tokens with every level up. Purchasing a Legend this way requires 12,000 Legend Tokens. In other words, you can afford a new Legend every 20 level-ups, a feat requiring fairly consistent play versus directly purchasing them.

Another part of the game that would require significant time is the Battle Pass. It comes with both a premium and free track, which both level ♍up ꦜsimultaneously. To level up the Battle Pass, you must complete daily and weekly challenges across multiple game modes.

With the sporadic play of a few hours a week, you could decently reach the middle of the battle pass, though it would take completing every weekly challenge consistently to reasonably fill out the battle pass before it expires.

Cost

Apex Coins in Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a Free-To-Play experience, so the upfront cost to play is non-existent. It does, however, come with multipl📖e forms of monetization, some of which contain cosmetics that can only be acquired with Apex Coins.

Apex Coins can be purchased in bundles ranging from 1,000 for $10, with the most expensive granting 11,500 for $100. Very few purchases will fall evenly within these numbers, likely leaving you with an odd amount of Apex Coins left over to encourage you to purchase more. Directly purchasing a new Legend costs 750 Apex Coins, leaving you with 250 Apex Coins that can't afford anything but Apex Packs.

Apex Legends has a Battle Pass for each season, with a premium and free track. The premium tracks cost 950 Apex Coins. Also relevant is that the Battle Pass functionally pays itself back if you fully complete it, offering 1200 Apex Coins.

This means that if you play the game enough to consistently complete the Battle Pass and the additional 25 levels it provides, it's almost profitable to purchase it.

The store also contains various other cosmetics and loot boxes. Loot boxes, known as Apex Packs, cost 100 Apex Coins, though the contents are almost entirely random. Other cosmetics can range from as low as 500 Apex Coins for a single weapon skin to as high as 5,000 Apex Coins for event cosmetics. The average bundle typically costs between 1,000-2,000 Apex Coins.

What Subscribers Are Saying

The Queer, Fast-Paced Hero Shooter You've Been Looking For - Hilton Webster

Apex Legends, like any ongoing game, has its issues. It can feel like you miss out on content if you're not constantly playing, some players are overly competitive in no-ranked matches, and bugs and server issues aren't as rare as you might hope for. On the flip side though, there's simply no other game like it. Having such a personable cast of characters, many of whom are openly queer and actually grow across seasons is a welcome change from competitors. Its movement also adds a whole new dimension and speed to the game, with strong gunplay that's hard to match. It has problems, but it shines in what it's good at.

Tough To Get Into, But Worth Trying Anyway - Sachi Go

Apex Legends is a genuinely fun battle royale that greatly benefits from being free. There's a good selection of starter Legends to try out, and the battle pass doesn't feel like a requirement to get the full experience.

That said, the learning curve can be daunting and lobbies will throw you in with more experienced players right away. Matchmaking is wonky, so you'll really have to tough it out if you want to get far. Bring a couple friends and make it a more enjoyable ride.

One of the Best Out There - Jack Webb

Apex Legends has launched its new update Revelry, which is something of a refresh for the game. With this update, you'll find it to be a much more beginner-friendly experience than when the game launched. With new modes to play around with all the Legends and guns, you don't even have to touch the main Battle Royale game mode if you don't want to. The best part is you can enjoy the whole game and everything it offers, without having to look at the microtransactions. As a free-to-play shooter, it's one of the best out there. There can be a steep learning curve, but don't be disheartened by losing. Bring your friends and drop in.
