Maybe it’s just my luck, but I used to spend 120 wishes tops to get a full new outfit, and now it’s more like 200+ despite the number of pieces remaining that make up each outfit remaining the same. But the money spent on looking fabulꦅous isn’t my iꦅssue. My foremost complaint is that we’re still in Wishfield–the starting region–and I’m very tired of seeing the same rolling fields over and over.

For Nikki’s First Open-World Adventure, It Feels Pretty Closed-Off

It’s only been seven months since the game launched, but it feels like years. I had the privilege of playing before launch in the closed betas, and the world of Miraland immediately hooked me. It felt so expansive, so wondrous and immersive, th🧸at it took a while to notice that the world was still ever so small.

The Fireworks Season started not long after launch with the introduction of the ‘first new region’ and my excitement not once lived up to the results. W💟hat was promised to be a new area was just that–but in name alone. It was a separate, smaller map that was disconnected from the rest of the world. The characters we grew to know and love in Wishfield, like Marques Jr., played a role in this new place, but that seemed to be the only thing that was truly new.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a flashy and much-appreciated update that gave a taste of what was to come. However, the problem became that the next two ‘new areas’ in the following updates were copies of the sa♋me strategy–wholly unheard of smaller maps with seasonal objectives that left little reason to return once the festivities ended.

You know it’s bad when the completionist in me doesn’t even want to go back to clean up those last few collectibles because they don’t re⛄ally count towards anything that matters.

Teasing The Next Kingdom Is Cruel Without Delivering On It

Eerie Season and the current Blue Tears Season are the two closest updates to new areas, as both provided new dungeons and expanded on previously inaccessible areas. Finally unlocking the massive door in the Abandoned Fanatic Wisher Camp scratched an it♈ch that arose back in the beta days, but also left a hollow feeling.

Much like how the backstory for Giovanni felt retconned with the Sea of Stars update, mꦛinimizing his role from major to minor in the grand scheme of the Seer.

We’ve been teased about the other nations, the long-dead gods, and the rising conflicts going on across Miraland. The Nikki series is no stranger to war, b🔯lood curses, and fallen༒ deities, but Infinity Nikki has yet to fully deliver. We’ve got hints of Umbraso exiles trickling in from the south, th🤡e schism between the followers of the Wishing One and the Silvergale, and the corruption of fae twist🔯ing into abhorrent abominations, but that hasn’t been touched upon in months!

The plot has been dropped in favor of what feels like a series of filler epi🍒sodes, and th♚e once potent tutorial was swapped out for a much less coherent start for new players.

Instead of a clear and concise introduction to Wishfield, you just… appear outside the Stylist’s Guild with no context. 💝It feels like another betrayal of what originally drew me to Infinity Nikki. A normal girl with a flair for fashion entering a magical world now feels like a rehashed version of “the chosen one fromℱ another world.” At least you have an iPad, right?

I still hold out hope for the future of Infinity Nikki, and it’s not because of the sunk-cost fallacy or my crippling addiction to sparkly gacha games. It’s because I’ve seen that spark of love and creativity that the community and developers have for💙 this IP. There’s so much positivity in the Nikkiverse, and I want to believe that maybe–juꦏst maybe–the lighthearted nature of Nikki can impact the world outside her game.

Then again, maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

It’s Time To Move On From Wishfield

We’ve seen more of the fairies that act as traveling merchants and have met new friends from all over Miraland, introduc🌞ing new cultures and festivities that flesh out the world. Yet there’s no way for me to reach them outside their respective event seasons.

It’s time to pack our bags and mov🦄e on from Wishfield for the next part of our adventure. Going off the in-game resources, there are only a few things left to be added before Wishfield’s arc is concluded. As for how long that will take, there’s no way to know. Maybe we’ll leave by the time we get to 2.0, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. After all, I’m still waiting for Giovanni to actually go home so I can see him again.
