Damien Chazelle’s La La Land is the type of movie I watch if I want to spend the rest of my evening staring out the window into nothingness aft𓂃erward. It’s a film about how sometimes the love between two people can be as strong as it could possibly be, but divergent lives cause them to shift apart no matter what. It’s about how sometimes relationships are just ships passing in the night, recognizing one another for a single brief moment before moving forward in search of a distant destination.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is much the same. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:It’s a story of fruitless persistence that explores ꦺhow there’s a difference between🅠 wanting something to work out and the reality of accepting that it’s never going to.
While La La Land and Expedition 33 don’t share much in terms of their genre or storytelling, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网𓃲:t🐽here’s a clear similarity in their themes. They feel like the worst kinds of breakups, the most painful realizations that sometimes life doesn’t work out eve꧙n when you want it to either because of death, break-ups, or circumstances entirel♉y outside your control.
Clair Obscur’s Silent Good-Bye
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 opens with protagonist Gustave giving a flower to his ex-girlfriend, Sophie. She’s 34 years old, which means that later in the day, sh🙈e🧸’s going to disappear on account of the haunting Paintress who turns everyone of a certain age to dust the seco🍃nd she paints a number on a bleak monolith far across the sea. Gustave spends the rest of the afternoon with Sophie as the two reconnect in the last hours of her life.
Despite some stiff character animations, the writing and performances in Expedition 33’s introduction are strong and make it🌌 incredib𓂃ly painful to witness. Gustave and Sophie aren’t bitter ex-lovers; and so there are myriad unspoken truths that neither wants to address. It’s ಌunclear why the pair broke up in the first place. There are suggestions that maybe the pair disagreed on what having children means in a world where people are written out of existence year after year, but neither Gustave nor Sophie wants to talk about it, and in Expeditioꦅn 33’s opening moments, it doesn’t matter anyway.
Why talk about anything unpleasant when someone knows they’re entering their final moments in life? Expedition 33 doesn’t want Gustave and Sophie to💝 have a dramatic fight causing her life to end on a sour note. Instead, the game has Gustave and Sophie reconnect despite the somber context. It’s sweet to see Gustave be there for Sophie in the end – holding her hand and reassuring her that he’s going to be there while she slips beyond.
In A Different World, We Might Have A Chance
La La Land has nothing to do with death and dying in a literal sense. The movie focuses on♌ the death of dreams and desire, specifically when it comes to fame and performers. The film details the entire relationship between Seb and Mia as they fall in love despite not being able to make a relationship work as their dreams of b♏eing successful in their respective careers take priority.
One of the film’s core ideas is mirrored in two phrases Gustave and Sophie tell one another when they reconnect: “In♑ a diff𝔉erent future.” and “In a different world.” La La Land’s ending is explicitly about these two dreams as we see what Seb and Mia’s life would have been like if they let go of their ideas of career success and instead focused on a loving relationship. Even so, they end up finding love, family, and success even without each other. It’s a snapshot of a different life, and a♉n experience many of us have likely been through ourselves.
It stings so much like Clair Obscur does in its opening moments. There’s no screaming or sobbing goodbye. Instead, Gustave and Sophie share silent tears as they mourn Sophie’s life and the dream of having a shared life between them would have worked. Tꦗhey mourn the idea of having to live in a world without the Paintress.
From there, Gustave doesn’t find much comfort in a world without Sophie. Things are bad༺ on The Continent, but the game’s opening reminds Gustave and the player what they’re fighting for and must give up on.
