If you want to create a video game that's destined to be a hit, it obviously starts with not only a well-written protagonist, but one who will be remembered throughout time. It's probably one of the hardest tasks as an artist and a designer to concept🐟 that out and come up with a definitive look for your protagonist. But if you ge🔥t it right, it will be iconic.

They look so lifelike.

That's the case for many of the characters in games that we kn🐷ow and love, who started out quite differently and could've looked a lot different if feedback creative decisions had not been adhered to. Many of these iconic protagonists also come from PlayStation games. From The Last of Us to Uncharted, God of War, Red Dead 2, and Wolfenstein, some of these original concepts will shock you.

10 P

Lies Of P

The main protagonist from Lies of P is, of course, Geppetto's puppet, Pinocchio. This version of the classic literary char🍎acter crea🍸ted by author Carlo Collodi is the most distinct from any other iteration. He's made to fit into this dark fantasy, disease-ridden Belle Époque-inspired landscape, but his face has quickly drawn comparisons to Dune and Wonka ♉st💧ar Timothée Chalamet.

There is a bit of that likeness with the facial structure and hair, but you can't say P is exactly identical to Chalamet, as he's covered in more freckles, has blue eyes, and a more childlike face with plumper cheeks. However, that's for the final design. If you look closely at the concept art for P, he has a rosier and paler face minus any freckles, and the eyes an🎃d face do actually seem to resemble Timothée Chalamet almost identically.

The head of Round8 Studio at Neowiz, Jason Park, stꦯated that Timothée Chalamet "could be 🥃the main actor" for P if they ever make a live-action film adaptation.

9 Abby

The Last of Us Part 2

Abby was one of the most controversial video game characters because of what she did to you know who, and you were probably even more surprised when you got to play her side of the story in The Last 🌃of Us Part 2. Now that Booksmart's Kaiꦿtlyn Dever portrays her in live-action and the iconic muscular model for Abby, voiced by Laura Bailey in the game, you might be shocked to see her early character design.

No, You're Doing It Wrong: What I Would Have Done Differently From The Protagonist In These Gaming Scenarios

I'm just built different. Better, even.

The original art for Abby Anderson in The Last of Us Part 2 shows she would've looked very different, from the way she was dressed to her much thinner build, as well as her hair🌜style. This initial design almost resembles a cross between adult Ellie and Tess from the first game, especially the clothing. Her hair was also a lot curl🔜ier and fully hanging down, and not in a ponytail. I'm glad we got the intimidating version of Abby we got.

8 🃏 🥀 B.J. Blazkowicz

MachineGames' Wolfenstein Series

B.J. Blazko💃wicz has been the main face of the Wolfenstein series since the '90s era, but he was more like the Doom guy at the bottom of the screen beside 🎉your health bar and shield. When it came to a modern reimagining of the series from MachineGames, B.J. Blazkowicz was finally set to have cutscenes and a true character model who would breathe new life into the character.

In his run with MachineGames, B.J. Blazkowicz has risen to be more than just a Nazi killer. He's become such a well-developed protagonist with a full arc, a memorable voice performance by Brian Bloom, and an iconic build. And I'm thrilled B.J. got the face that we got because the o𓃲riginal concept made him look like quite a generic GI Joe, and he's much older, his fac﷽e not standing out the way it is now.

7 Sam Fisher ๊

Splinter Cell Series

The most iconic stealth protagonist next to Agent 47 in the Hitman series and Snake in Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series is Sam Fisher. Fisher is a covert operative in the NSA's Third Echelon spy network, like the IMF in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mission: Impossible, but wi🌜th really awesome stealth suits that also have iconic night visioꦡn goggles.

Sam's character was described to the developers as a 'seasoned veteran,' and his backstory is that he was a former Navy SEAL. Therefore, the original concept art for Sam Fisher aged him up significantly, giving him the appearance of a much older and hardened ex-military figure. He has full wh𝓡ite hair and a build that feels like a cross between Marv from Sin City, Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quaritch from Avatar, and Jorgen Von Strangle.

6 🔯 Chris Redfield

Resident Evil Series

Chris Redfield is one of the most iconic horror game protagonists. He debuted in the original 1996 Resident Evil and has evolved throughout the series since. You've seen many iterations of Chris, from all the different remakes and sequels, including Resident Evil Village, to the CG animated movies and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the live-action actors portraying his c🦋haracter.

Jill is the true hero of🍃 the Resident Evil series.

1

The original drawings fo🃏r Chris made him too boyish and like a character from a cartoon. The hair color and shape were largely kept the same (though less spiky), and even influenced the look of the live-action actor in the opening cutscene of the original game. The outfit color and accessories in the concept art matched the final model for Chr🅷is, but his character design would be improved upon with each new installment.

5 Aloy

Horizon Series

The Horizon series puts you in a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth was ruined by a plague and switched to a more primitive society, surviving the 'Machine Age,' in which a ton of different kinds of animal-like machines pose a threat to you. And the main character taking them on is Aloy, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:voiced by Ashly Burch.

Aloy almost looked like MJ from the Spider-Man comics crossed with Ellie from The Last of Us, based on her original design. She looked more inexperienced and younger than 168澳洲幸运5开奖网꧅:the strong and confident female protagonist we all cherish. Her hair, though it stayed 🀅the same color of auburn red, was also a lot thicker and not as braided. Aloy's eyes were very different, and now she has a more rounded face. The outfit wasn't as good either.

4 Nathan Drake 🎐 🎃

Uncharted Series

Nathan Drake is 168澳洲幸运5开ꦉ奖网:Naughty Do🌺g's young and sly Indiana Jones. He rolls with his pal Sully on treacherous expeditions, scaling ancient structures and battling mercenaries. Finding a look to define and distinguish such an adventurer must've been quite a challenge, but t💯he design the developer settled on has indeed solidified Nate as one of the most iconic and recognizable 𒅌protagonists.

But what you might not have known about the backstory of Nathan Drake's design is t🔴hat his look was originally inspired by the star of Jackass and Bad Grandpa, Johnny Knoxville. You can definitely see that in the hair and the facial exp𒅌ression, but he oddly also resembles Remedy Entertainment's creative lead, Sam Lake. Had this indeed become the final design, Nate's character would've been very hard to take seriously.

3 Jo🌊el Miller

The Last Of Us Series

Protagonists don't get any more iconic than Joel Miller, the deeply flawed protector of Ellie Williams, who would stop at nothing to ensure her survival. Joel Miller is one of the best performances to grace gaming, and his visual model and the writing for his character led him to become one of the most beloved 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:sad dad figures in gaming.

Video games include some of the most heroic characters to ever grace a story, and these heroes are true🌜 examples of a noble protagonist.

Like Abby in The Last of Us Part 2, ဣJoel nearly looked very different. While the classic green shirt was still part of his character, his appearance was like that of actor Josh Duhamel crossed with ༺Norman Reedus. Since Norman Reedus led The Walking Dead, which was a popular zombie series, it's no surprise that he could've inspired Joel's design. Luckily, his face got a lot wearier and the beard thicker and grayer to arrive at his defining look.

2 Kratos

God Of War Series

Kratos is a lean, mean, God-killing machine. With a tragic backstory and a bloodlust for revenge, how do you set out to create such a tough, brave, and angry demigod? Well, according to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Santa Monica Studio, you shave his head a🐈nd throw some white and red war paint on the dude and give him some abs and muscles to make him the scariest and mo𒉰st vengeful bald character in gaming.

Some of the earlier designs for Kratos were almost a totally different character. Like, can you even imagine a punk-rock Kratos with hair that makes him look like he's from Brütal Legend, or his fac🌺e without any facial hair and just a red and white skull outline like on those neon skull-masked gang members from Batman & Robin? A totally different vibe for Kratos that would've been even harder to ad💃apt for the 2018 sequel.

1 🙈 🔯 Arthur Morgan

Red Dead Redemption 2

Arthur Morgan is one of the most tragic video game protagonists. His demeanor and charming face, especially for his often witty dialogue 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:and more emotional beats, become very important throughout 🌞the story. You really can't imagine him looking different from how you see him in Red Dead Redemption 2, but his early concept art almost said otherwise.

The original design looks nothing like the Arthur Morgan we know and love, and it's hard to imagine us finding any way to relate or sympathize with his character, because that face looks so much like t♏he vile antagonist Micah Bell. His facial structure, raggedy blonde hair, beard, and mustache resemble Micah's, almost as if he and Micah later swapped places as characters, which, if true, thank God.

for Red Dead🔯 Redemption 2, where you can swap out Arthur's traditional model for a model resembling the Arthur Morgan concept art.
