Making video games based on films has 💞been an effective marketing strategy for Hollywood for many years. It’s a great way to build awareness, capitalize on the hype of the𒈔 movie, and squeeze out a few more dollars.
Unfortunately, these games are known to be bad as they typically rely on hype rather than quality. Because of this many will be ignored and end up flying under the radar for most gamers, whether they are good or bad. Horror movies should make good video games, but rarely does the medicum capitali🎃ze on the genre the way it deserves.
10 The Evil Dead 🧸
Based on Sam Raimi’s directorial debut that went on to create a series, reboot, and tv series, The Evil Dead video game was released in 1984 for the Commodore 64🗹. The game put players in Ash’s shoes as he races to close the cabin windows to keep monsters out and kill those that are already inside with axes, shotguns, and shovels.
The game was likely inspired by Atic Atac and ends once the player has killed all monsters and destroyed The Book of The Dead. ജIt was likely overlooked due to the entire game lasting only a manner of minutes and coming out three years after the movie’s release.
9 Coraline
The children’s horror movie Coraline was accompanied by a game of the same name released for the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game largely followed the plot of the movie and had a number of minigames,𒅌 collectibles, & other tasks to complete.

8 Jaws
Released in 1987 for the NES, the Jaws v༒ideo game had players pilot a boat across the sea in search of the monstrous shark. Players would have to dive below the ocean surface to battle Jellyfish, sharks, and other sea creatures before getting back into the🐼 boat. Whenever the player rammed the boat into the iconic shark, they could attack it with depth charges, lowering its health to trigger a challenging boss fight.
It received mixed reviews with some critics saying it was a solid gam💮e for its time while others found it to be boring and repetitive. One thing players agree on is th🔯at the iconic music was very rough on the NES system.
7 C▨onsta๊ntine
Constantine is an RPG-style game with players controlling the hero to eliminate demons in a third-person shooter. Players could summon flies, exorcise demons, or command lightning storms. The game starts off similar to the movie before John enters hell to find the Holy Shotgun, the Witch’s Curse set, and the Crucifie🥀r to stop the demonic invasion.
The mobile phone and Xbox vers🐲ions of the game received decent reviews. Some thought the spells were randomly included in the game, but felt the gunplay w▨as fun enough even if the story was cheesy.
6 Pandorum
Based on the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sci-Fi horror movie Pandorum, players take on the role of Corpora🧸l Bower to explore the spaceship Elysium and find a way to survive🌸. It was a mobile game designed for the iPhone and iPod touch.

5 Saw
Some time after the release of the controversial film that was panned by critics but loved by audiences, the Saw video game released to a similar response. Players felt it was very similar to the Silent Hill series which is probably due𝓰 to the game being published by Konami.
Players take on the role of police officer David Tapp who seeks revenge for the death of his partner during the events of the first movie. Players must navigate a series of horrifying puzzles to survive before encountering one of two dark endings. It received mixed reviews and was followed up with a sequel Saw II: Flesh & Blood.
4 Blade
Released for the Game Boy Color and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation, Blade was released two years after the film came out. Playing similar to the early Tomb Raider games, players took control of Blade to kill vampires across the city along with their monsཧtrous u🦩nderlings.
The mobile version received far moღre praise than the PlayStation version did. Critics felt the game had a lot of potential but felt rushed. This was possibly due to the film having been released two years prior with audiences largely moving on.
3 Friday The 13th (1989)
Unlike the more recent and more successful Friday the 13th: The Game, the 1989 Friday the 13th was panned by both audiences and critics. Players can control one of six characters of differing athletic abilities to defeat enemies like zombies and wolves while looking for the final boss, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Jason Voorhees, before he kills the other camper💮s and the player.
It had some significant plot differences from the movie, namely the Medusa-like head boss ♉that was Jason’s mother. Critics disliked the creative choices and audiences found the game to be far too difficult.
2 Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead’s Reveng𓂃e
Based on the cult classic film of the same name, Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead’s Revenge came out a year after the movie was released. The game was basically a Doom clone with p🏅layers killing var🗹ious creatures in different environments.
Bloodwings was largely panned for its shoddy controls, hard to navigate environments, and the grainy cutscenes that would interrupt gameplay every few minutes. Many of the few people who played Bloodwings were upsౠet bඣy the poorly designed monsters that were meant to intimidate the player.
1 The Thing
The Thing stands out on this list as one of the few movie-based video games that actually stands on its own as a video game. Released 20 years after the film, it functions as a sequel with players controlling one of four characters as they kill the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Lovecraftian creatures infesting the research base and determining who of thꦜe NPCs has been infected.
What’s interesting is that the NPCs are similarly trying to determine if the hero has been infected or not with the player’s actions causing them to lean one way 𒈔or another. Healing them can raise their trust while friendly fire can lower trust. There was also a fear💜 system that affected NPC's abilities in combat and performing tasks resulting in suicide if they became too scared. It was a commercial success with many critics giving it a thumbs up.
