14 years ago, someone posted to 4chan’s /v/ board about running into a strange humanoid entity in a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Minecraft cave after listening to music disc 13. Vague screenshots of “White Eyes” lurking in the dark and hiding in the thick fog of Minecraft’s alpha began to spread and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Herobrine was born.

The story was that creator Notch’s deceased brother lived on through Minecraft, appearing randomly in people’s games as a phantom. He was said to build pyramids in the ocean, gut trees of their leaves, and build long, unexplained two-by-two tunnels underground. But the creepypasta didn&rsquo🌄;t take hold until a content creator known only as Copeland launched a famous livestream, propelling the Herobrine myth into Minecraft history.

Before the stream, Copeland Photoshopped Herobrine into his world for a funny social me🅷dia post.

The stream started like any other. Copeland, using the DokuCraft te🐭xture pack, was building his mountaintop home. Nobody suspected a thing. But as he ventured into the “Love Shack”, he came face to face with a haunting figure - Herobrine. He quickly turned heel and ran out of the house, putting as much distance between him and the mysterious white-eyed phantom as he could, until he stumbled into lava as Herobrine watched from above. In the end, the stream redirected his audience to a GIF of Herobrine with unsettlingly realistic, moving eyes.

It catapulted Herobrine into the mainstream, turning an obscure 4chan post into a part of the game’s legacy. But that stream was lost. ✱The site hosting it deleted the files and nobody has come forward with a recording, meaning that the turning point in Herobrine’s story was doomed to obscurity. Until Enderboss25 came along.

Recovering The Livestream

Three yea🌸rs ago, Enderboss25 posted a short four-minut🃏e video to YouTube about the stream, setting out to recover this pivotal part of Minecraft’s mythos.

“I experienced the first wave of people subscribing to my channel and reaching out,” En🅷derboss25 tells me, reminiscing about the day he hit upload and entered into Herobrine’s history himself. “It was awesome hearing people’s stories about Herobrine and their inputs about the lost stream.”

He spent eight months looking for a video over a decade old. The WaybackMachine failed, so he reached out to live༺stream.com directly to ask if it had been archived. However, theওy needed the original uploader’s consent to divulge any information, and so the hunt for Copeland began. The only problem was, Copeland disappeared ten years prior.

Finding Copeland

Enderboss25 found an archived Steam group made ♔by Copeland in 2010, the smoking gun. 💧Using his ID on Steam, he found that Copeland had changed his username. In a hail mary, he reached out, and lo and behold, got a reply. The wheels began to turn.

Copeland didn’t have the stream saved himself, so he permitted livestream.com to dig out the archive. But to everyone’s disapp🐲ointment, the archive had long been erased.

“At first, it felt super hopeless - was this search all for nothing?” Enderboss25 says. “As I came to terms with it and began working on my Part 2 video, I began to view the loss di🔜fferently. It was an opportunity for me to share what I had found, and open up the search to the community.”

Recreating History

Enderboss25 still hadꦚ a pivotal piece of the puzzle: contact with Copeland. While the stream was gone, Copeland still had the world file. So, the two opened it up and got to work on piecing together the most authentic recreation to date.

“[It was] terrifying,”𒆙 Enderboss25 says of entering the original world for the first time. “I was afraid Herobrine would jump out at me. But serious🦄ly, it was pretty magical - I knew of the immense impact this singular world had on the community, and it was so cool to be the one to step inside it for the first time. I had many questions about the world for years leading up to that point that were finally answered!”

Copeland didn’t just provide the world file, he also explained what happened that day to the best of his memory. All the fakes and recreations up until then were based on vag🅷ue accounts from viewers, as well as guesswork on how he pulled it off.

Some assumed he changed the door texture, others believed he modded Herobrine into the game, while some were honest-to-god convinced that Mi🌠necraft had an♕ evil Steve stalking players. In reality, the answer was simple.

“He gave us details on what he remembers doi꧅ng before the main event,” Enderboss25 says. “He also told us how he created the Photoshopped pain💮ting with Herobrine on it, [and] I then followed his steps for the recreation.”

From the plain normalcy of the original stream to the jarring reveal of a strange entity standing in what is otherwise an ordinary part of Copeland's base, the recreation has it all. We see him sprinting out of the house, checking behind him as he hopes to shake Herobrine, all in the exact same world from 14 years ago. You can watch it above at the 4:44 mark.

Why The Stream Is So Important

Herobrine is the sum of many stories. A 4chan post began the myth with a simple idea - an evil Minecraft Steve mightꦓ be lurking in💜 your world. But the moment that cemented Herobrine in the game’s history was that lost livestream.

“Originally, Herobrine was just a short story that an anonymous user posted - it gained very little attention,&✃rdquo; Enderboss25 explains. “If it wasn’t for Copeland seeing the story and then being inspired to make his now infamous hoax stream, the Herobrine myth likely would’ve been completely forgotten. The hoax stream gave it that little bit of publicity that it needed to go viral.”

Copeland shot Herobrine into the spotlight, leading to Bukkit plugins, n♛ew sightings, and even appearances in famous YouTube series like the Yogcasts’ Shadow of Israphel.

Minecraft Herobrine's Tomb

New lore to the legend formed. Now, Herobrine was summoned by gold blocks, netherrack, and redstone torches, somethin♒g countless kids tried for themselves in the hope of seeing the creepypasta firsthand. And he was erecting giant pyramids, baiting players into traps with the p﷽romise of treasure.

Mojang even got in on the joke too💖, claiming in several patch notes that Herobrine had been “removed”, insinuating that this paranormal entity had been running wild up to that point.

Three Years Later

Copeland went AWO꧅L again, disappearing from the community. Enderboss25 hasn’t had any contact with him since the recreation, so he arr🌟ived at just the right time to piece together the story. However, after it was posted, Copeland told Enderboss25 that the results were “great” and “accurate” to the real thing.

“It feels great to know that I made a difference in uncovering a part of Minecraft’s history,” Enderboss25 tells me. “Especially with something as fascinating and unique as Herobrine - it&rsqu♎o;s a real testament to the creativity of the community.

“It’s incredibly important to keep the history of Minecraft intact. Minecraft is special in the way of it being ever-changing. No other video game has had the same amount of depth and complexity to it - trends, members, stories, and playstyles within Minecraft come and go extremely fast! That’s why it’s so important to keep the history of the game intact, so that future generations of Minecraft players can see the rich history behin⛄d it all, and how it has influenced the game it will become.”
