  • Hades 2 embraces inclusivity with queer characters who are super hot, showcasing a range of diverse representations.
  • There is no war on hot characters, just an increase in characters appealing to different preferences beyond the male gaze.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think a lot about Eve from Stellar Blade. Not because she’s hot, but due to the almost surreal fact that her shapely behind and jiggle physics have somehow caused what feels like a culture-wide meltdown. Her being a slim thick Asian baddie has somehow 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:galvanised a vocal con💎tingent of gamers who are adamant that modern games are forced to be completely sexless, because 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the woke mob hates hot girls.

Women characters who look more akin to real-life people are often derided as ugly, and the relatively common practice of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) consultation is pegged as the cause. Because liberals and leftists think that games should uphold their principles, the argument goes, they hate characters that are both women and hot. DEI and hot characters can’t exi🌺st side by side, the logic goes, as one ruins the other.

I’ve been turning this over in my head for the last day wh🔥ile scrolling through my Twitter feed, in which absolutely everybody I follow is thirsting loudly over Hades 2’s characters. People are barking, slobbering, and saying they want these characters to step on them. Adults with very real, very serious jobs are acting feral online for a bunch of illustrated Greek gods, which is understandable, because they are all very hot. These same people did not act like this about Stellar Blade’s Eve. That aforementioned group of angry gamers will frame this as hypocrisy, but I offer an alternative way to look at it.

Who Decides What Hotness Is?

The thing about Eve is tha🦄t she is very conventionally attractive, if you subscribe to society’s beliefs of what makes a person hot. Issy van der Velde, formerly of TheGamer, wrote about how Eve caters heavily to the male gaze. It poses the question that yes, Eve is attractive, but to who? When the game’s 🐼director Kim Hyung-Tae said that the studio “wanted to come up with the most attractive looking body for the user”, who is that presumed user?

However you feel about Eve’s design, the fact is that not everybody finds the same body type attractive. Not everybody is a butt gu♉y, or a boob guy, or even attracted to women, for that matter. That’s where Hades 2 comes in.

Let's take a moment to appreciate these absolute babes

Hades is known for being a very gay game. Anybody who disputes this is choosing to turn a blind eye to the game’s narrative, which is a huge reason why it’s beloved in the first place. Zagreus can hook up with Dusa, Thanatos, or Megaera. You can even have a menage a trois with the latter two, if you play your cards right. Achilles and Patroclus are canonically queer, and Chaos is explicitly non-binary. All of these characters are gay, and they’re also super hot.

Diversity Means More Types Of Hot, Not Fewer

That queer bent isn’t token at all – inclusivity is at the core of Hades, and it follows through with its character designs. Hades 2 picks up that torch and carries it even further. My fellow features editor Ben Sledge wrote about how Hades 2 is leaning harder into diverse representation by making 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:more diverse character designs. We get the tಌypical Greek god physiques when it comes to the men, and Aphrodite is as conventionally stunning, long-haired, and nude as she was in the first g🧸ame.

But we also get jacked women, the older, sterner and very imposing Demeter (a far cry from her more haggard depiction in the first game), a goth babe with a pixie cut that might be Eris, an absolute massive bear of a man that I suspect is Polyphemus. We even get a Hephaestus in his wheelchair, with a prosthetic leg, and he’s fat! And they’re all sexy!

Stellar Blade caters to the kind of player that finds Eve hot, but that kind of attractiveness doesn’t appeal to everyone. It’s absolutely not true that there’s a war being waged on hot characters, we’re just seeing an increase in characters that appeal to more types of people. Eve is undeniably good-looking, but I’m not interested in the focus on body parts and pandering to the male gaze that I&🌄rsquo;ve seen so far. Give me an illustrated winged goth girlfriend instead any day.
