In this trailer, we finally get a look at the gameplay, as the devs show off some oꦕf the improvements that are coming with the remake, in🎶cluding reworked character AI and new abilities.
This is our first look at Gothic 1 Remake's gameplay, after previous trailers focussed on cinematics. Here, we can see how the 2001 RPG has been reimagined, with modernised controls and a particular focus on improving the game's simulation mechanics.
Gothic 1 Remake Gets A Gameplay Trailer
Several features are shown off in the trailer, including some new mechanics. We're told that there will be "new stories" to find in-game, suggesting there are brand new quests, and we're also shown new abilities like rock climbing. On top of this, we're told that the devs want to create "more rewarding" character progression.
Despite the trailer being so expansive, we still don't have a release date.
Ahead of the showcase, the THQ Nordic discussed Gothic 1 Remake with the press, sharing some more details about the project. Here, the devs were eager to stress that they want Gothic 1 Remake to be a living, breathing world - and one that will continue without the player's involvement. They also emphasised player choice, saying that we will have free rein on what tasks to tackle and in what order.
We were also told that NPC activities should be "more diverse" this time around🌊, as the devs are eager to hone in on the simulation mechanics in the first Gothic game. NPC simulation was mentioned throughout our presentation, so it looks like this is a primary focus for the dev team.

Fans have been eager to see some actual gameplay from the remake for some time, as the previous trailers have focussed on cinematics. We'll have to see if fans of the original like what they see of this project, as the game has maintained a cult following since its 2001 release.
Gothic 1 Remake is the first project from the young developer Alkimia Interactive. The original game was developed by꧙ Piranha Bytes, a German studio which closed this year.
