GeoGuessr has become a bit of a phenomenon since its original browser version launched, with tons of people giving it a try and even creating their own sp☂in-offs based on gaming series like GT💮A and Skyrim. Just a few days ago, s, giving players the chance to jump in and give tไhe dedicated Steam release a try and hope that it's good enough to stop everyone from constantly hopping into the browser version. Unfortunately, it seems that's not the case at all, which is made very clear by the reviews.

As of the time of writing, GeoGuessr S⛎team Edition has been met with "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews on Steam (), with more than 1,900 of the total 2,284 reviews not recommending the game. Only 364 of the reviews are positive, and players are .

"How can they possibly mess up something as simple as GeoGuessr?", I hear you cry. Well, the answer is very simple and pretty much what you'd expect - monetization. Players can only access the lowest 💖rank of competitive gameplay for free, and access to any higher levels costs a subscription fee of $2.50 a month. That's right, you'll need a subscription to play Ge🔯oGuessr on Steam, for some reason.

Not only is this price point bizarre , but some of the Steam reviews indicate that this means that locations end up repeaღting themselves unless you pay the fee. As the reviews make clear, there are far better alternatives than having to shell out money for a more bloated version.

The developers have tried to smooth things over a bit by giving free access to those with the Unlimited Yearly subscription from the web version, but it's not doing much to quell the anger. It's yet 🎀another nail in the coffin for a browse♏r game that worked so well because of its simplistic and❀ friendly concept.
