A well-executed and shocking plot twist is hard to forget. And there have been many of them in video games over the years. Surprise deaths, betrayals, characters ꦍnot actually existing, and more things have happened to turn a game's narrative completely on its head.

Not every plot twist is good, as if it doesn't make sense or is very predic𓄧table, then it won't be very effective, and won't stick with people years later. The best ones, though, will be remembered forever. The following twists are perfect examples of that, as they happened long ago, but players still haven't gotten over them.

8 The Boss Didn't Betray Her Country

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Early in Metal Gear Solid 3, it's revealed that the legendary American hero and Naked Snake's mentor, The Boss, has defected to the Soviet Union. In the process, she joins forces with Colꦺonel Volgin and gives him a nuclear shell. He uses that to destroy a research facility in his home country of Russia.

This whole ordeal makes Russia very angry with the United States. To appease them, Snake goes on a mission with multiple objectives, including killing The Boss. Yet, after he does so, it's shockingly revealed that 🐎The Boss didn't really defect. She was just attempting to infiltrate Volgin's ranks, as were her orders. However, after Volgin destroyed the Facility, The Boss knew she had to let herself be killed by Snake to avoid a war between America and Russia.

7 Cloud's Actual Past

Final Fantasy 7

In Final Fantasy 7, Cloud Strife is a former first-class SOLDIER who now works as a mercenary for an eco-terrorist group, trying to bring down one of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the most evil companies ever, Shinra. He w🙈as once on a similar level to the legendary Sephiroth and was even buddies with the guy. That is until Sephiroth lost his mind and burned down Cloud's🅺 hometown of Nibelheim.

His memories were replaced with those of Zack. So, it was Zack who was the legendary first-class hero, not Cloud.

Typically, the person's life you're reliving is that of an Assassin from another era. In Assassin's Creed 3, you witness the memories of Haytham Kenway for the early part of the game. It was supposed to be a utopia, but it has all fallen apart, maꩵinly due to the conflict between Rapture creator Andrew Ryan and criminal Frank Fontaine. Your character still enters the place and is led around by a man 🦄named Atlas. Eventually, you come face to face with Andrew Ryan, intending to kill the man like Atlas wants you to.

However, this is when you learn that you're being manipulated. Every order Atlas gives you🧜 includes the words "would you kindly" as it's a hypnotic trigger that has been implanted into your brain. So, you've had no choice but to do as Atlas has said. Around this time, you also learn that Atlas is actually Fontaine, and you're the illegitimate son of Andrew Ryan. Fontaine used you because of your genetic code, which allows you access to Rapture's systems.

4 The Government Betrays John Marston 🌳

Red Dead Redemption

During Red Dead Redemption, you play as former outlaw John Marston, and yoཧu have to do the Government's dirty work. More specifically, you must track down several of your former running buddies and take care of them one way or another. This is because the Government is trying to rid the world of outlaws.

Once you succeed, you🌱 can return to your family and spend some quality time with them. In the game's closing stages, the Government agents you worked with appear on your ranch with many of their friends. You try to fight them off for a while and let your family escape. In the end, though, they gun you down in an effort to eliminate the final loose end.

3 James Killed His🥃 Wife

Silent Hill 2

The main character of Silent Hill 2 is a man named James Sunderland, who travels down to the titular town after receiving a letter from his supposedly dead wife. By this point, she'd been dead for three years, so the letter naturally caught James's attention𝔍. While exploring Silent Hill, looking for her, he enc🍎ounters different monstrous creatures and strange events.

He felt you and the rest of Task Force 141 were beginning to figure out his plans, so he took you out.

Braid

ꦆOn the surface, Braid seems a fairly simple game in terms of story. You are the classic hero trying to save a Princess from some kind of monster. Some bits of text you can read throughout the game explain that your protagonist and the Princess share a complicated past, but it doesn't make it abundantly clear what their current relationship is.

Anyway, at the final level,🦂 you finally meet her. She is in the area above you, getting chased by a Knight. You both race through the level to the end. It is then revealed that you've been playing this level in reverse. She is not being chased by a Knight; you are chasing her, a🍸nd the Knight is there to save her. It turns out you were the monster all along.
