Game Of The Year Editor’s Pick, 2023 – Ben Sledge

The best part about choosing my own Game of the Year list is that I ignore big games that everyone raves about that don't mesh well with me and gush over the titles that made 2023 as good as it is for gaming. I'm picky with what games get my time, and these are my top ten titles of 2023.

There are several 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:more Game ♛of the Year articles🎶 in our GOTY hub. With a variety of titles you'll definitely enjoy and relate to, be sure to check them out. Our full-site list will be revealed on December 18.

10. Final Fantasy 16

Cid and Torgal in Final Fantasy 16.

This game barely makes it in. If it weren't for its fantastic opening sequence and tense story moments that pulled me through, it might not have made it at all. Fun action sequences, gems of storytelling in disturbingly boring side quests, and boss battles that all try new things just about plunk 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 16 into a top-ten slot. Some people will tell you it's the best Final Fantasy to date; just know they're wrong, but it's still pretty good. It’s not even the best Final Fantasy game on this list.

9. The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: Link and Zelda beneath Hyrule Castle

It takes me a while to get into open-world titles like this, but when they click, things just open up (get it?). While 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Tears of the Kingdom is similar to its predecessor, there's a unique wonder to its sandbox, truly allowing you to do things on your own. I still can't build amazing structures, but at least I got to play dress-up with Link.

8. Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries Of Honjo

Visual novels are BACK BABY! Intriguing stories and unexpectedly cool puzzle moments make it a must-play title. This one came thanks to the other editors at TheGamer, and if you've got a penchant for titles like Danganronpa or the Zero Escape series, you won't be disappointed as you use your own deductive skills to solve the mysteries in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Paranormasight.

7. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - Image showcasing the game's music notes and rhythm gameplay.

You can't go wrong with a rhythm game, and you really can't go wrong with a rhythm game with songs from some of the most renowned composers in gaming. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Bar Line set♚ the bar high (get it) for what rhythm titles should be. Relive the impactful moments of the Final Fantasy series as you choose your party and battle through stages. Bonus points for all the other non-Final Fantasy ﷽Square Enix games that were able to get their music onto this massive undertaking.

This one is even better in multiplayer mode.

6. Resident Evil 4 Remake

Leon posed in front of Ashley with a gun

This game is here because it's fun. Video games should be fun. Having not played the original, I finally get the hype. Both scary and action-packed, if you can't suplex a zombie or backflip your way out of danger, what are you even doing? Also, Leon is hilarious.

Honorable Mentions That Didn't Make The Cut

5. Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6, Rashid's Eagle Spike attack

I'd probably never put a fighter as Game of the Year, but from the beta to the final product, Street Fighter 6 proves why the series is always at the top of the fighting game echelon. From the completely busted but wonderfully integrated modern control scheme allowing new players in on the action, to accessibility options and a surprisingly fun story mode, SF6 made this year a true win.

4. Super Mario RPG

Mario platformers suck, to be honest. But gosh darn it, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Mario RPG is just so fun. RPG, Final Fantasy, and Nintendo fans will all find something wholesome to celebrate with tඣhis one—double points for being short and sweet.

3. Fire Emblem Engage

61-Fire Emblem Engage Best Unit Pairings For Every Emblem

While 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the peak of the series, Engage started 2023 off with a serious understanding of what the year had in store. Bright, vibrant, and gorgeous, it was a surprise to see what the Switch still had left in it. With witty writing, amazing performances (looking at you, Yunaka), and the best gameplay in the series, Engage deserves all the praise. It's also one of the few games this year that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:actually had dark-skinn💫ed Blac🌌k people in it.

No, I'm not just basing my list on how many Black people were in each game. If I were, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:FF16 wouldn't be on it.

2. Octopath Traveler 2

Bridge in Leaflands in Octopath Traveler 2

Sometimes, all you need to do is refine things and make them better in a sequel. With new stories, new characters, new mechanics, and an even better soundtrack, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Octopath Traveler 2 is exactly what RPGs are all about. While the cast may♍ not hold up to the original, every asp👍ect of this game, from its gorgeous HD-2D graphics to its gameplay and fun character interactions and writing all scream game of the year. Please, play this game.

1. Baldur's Gate 3

I hate to be that person who just puts 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur's Gate 3 on top, but if you've played it, you'll understand. Having played the adventure co-op throughout, watching the sheer amount of options, the brilliant writing and quick attachment to characters that put out astounding performances, and the unpredictability of it all, no two stories told about this game are ever the same. You get games like this once every few years, and BG3 will forever be a staple of what games can aspire to be.

Another great tit꧟le to pꦏlay co-op on your next playthrough.
