To be fair, there's a good reason you don't see these characters in any of the mainl🦂ine games. Pac🍷-Man and friends only ever appeared in the arcade versions of Mario Kart. Since arcade machines haven't been Nintendo's forte for a long time, the project was developed and published by Namco.

It's only fair, then, that Namco injects some of their most familiar fac𝄹es into the roster while they're at it. Th💖ey're not the most out-of-place characters to grace the Rainbow Road, but all in all, we're not chomping at the bit for their return.

6 Mametchi

The Tamagotchi Mascot

Of all the ways we hoped to see a Mario/Tamagotchi crossover, it wasn't like this. Mametchi is the frontman for the popular pocket pet 🐲toy brand. Can you guess what company owns that brand? That's right! Namco! As such, Mametchi was a playable character in the second M𒆙ario Kart arcade game.

Namco doesn't have a ton of family-fꦗriendly properties that would fit into a Mario Kart setting, so we get why this was a logical follow-up choice. Though we're far 🌊more interested in a Nintendo-branded Tamagotchi than having a tama in Mario Kart.

Can you imagine a Mario-themed Tamagotchi toy? What if we could raise our own yoshi, with different colors or styles depending on how you raise it? We would LOVE to see this, but odds are we ꦕwon't.

5 Don-Chan

Hang on tight, folks; we're almost done talking about Namco properties. The third Mario Kart arcade game, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, swaps Mametchi out for a different IP: Don-Chan. This senꦐtient drum.. dog.. thing, is the mascot for their rhythm game series, Taiko no Tatsujin.

In Taiko no Tatsujin, you bang a taiko drum to the rhythm of different music tracks, ranging from classic songs to high-octane remixes of other pieces of media. Why were they added t🌃o a Mario Kart game? We don't really know. Maybe because Taiko no Tatsujin is also popular in arcades? Either way, 🐓we don't really miss them.

4 ಌ ﷽ Honey Queen

She Was The Bee's Knees

With the third-party characters out of the way, it's time to get to the really obscure Nintendo characters! First, we have Honey Queen,꧙ the giant fuzzy bee from Super Mario Galaxy. She only ever appears in Mario Kart 7 as an unlockable character.

While obscure, she was a fittingly relevant character, with the Galaxy games being theღ most recent Mario titles around the time. And unlike other side character drivers, she had her own battle stage. With multiple mainline Mario games having come and gone without her inclusion, we get why she's been forgotten, though we'd be happy to see her return.

3 Donkey Kong Jr 💃

Dad, Can I Borrow The Car?

A lot of folks familiar with the first Mario Kart forget that it doesn't actua💯lly include Donkey Kong, but his son, Donkey Kong Jr. He functioned more or less identically to his father, but sported his signature tank top shirt instead of a tie.

Unfortunately for Jr, he was replaced by the OG in Mariꦺo Kart 64, where he's remained absent ever since. The only other time he appears is in Mario Kart Tour, the mobile game. But since that game's entire monetization scheme is to pay money for random racer drops (Genshin style), it hardly counts.

2 R.O.B.

Rather Obscure Bot

R.O.B.'s history is a funny one. Originally, it was a physical accessory to the NES in the 'ꦜ80s. It was an inte﷽gral player in keeping video games within the public consciousness at the time. To commemorate R.O.B.'s success, he's appeared in various Nintendo games over time.

While his biggest spotlight in modern years is his inclusion in Smash Bros games, he had an earlier appearan🌳ce in Mario Kart DS, where he was a secret end-g🤡ame unlockable. Unfortunately, he hasn't shown up since. He filled in a niche of being technologically sci-fi, which was a charming contrast to the look of everyone else. It's a niche that remains unfilled even today.

Double Decade Disappearance

Out of everyone in Mario Kart history, no one character has been cast aside as powerfully as Paratroopa. This winged, red-shelled koopa first appeared on the track in Mario Kart: Double Dash (2003). He served as the main pairing to Koopa, leaning into the two-person gimmick of the game. His legacy lives on through Koopa, who has become a regular in all sorts of multiplayer Mario titles, but he hi💛mself remains completely forgotten. With over t🅺wo decades and 12 games, Paratroopa remains the most forgotten about racer in Mario Kart History.

This is an outright tragedy! Parꦯatroopa is, in all regards, a better, cooler, koopa. And with the flying/gliding mechanics of the more recent games, he would be a perfect fit. And yet, he remains neglected. Even the Piantas are getting more love. Don't worry, Paratroopa, you'll al𝄹ways be number one in my heart.

A recurring theme in Mario Kart games is a racer having a themed item that they will get more often than others. Paratroopa's was the Triple Red Shell, making him a particularly dangerous🔜 combatant on the track.
