Mythril Golem Boss Fight Overview

Barret battling the Mythril Guardian in FF7 Rebirth

We begin our guide on battling Rude and Elena in Chapter 3 by pointing out that their speed is your greatest enemy. Mythril Golem, Chapter 3's other boss, is quite slow; its raw strength and high defense are your main concerns.

Many - though crucially, not all - of the Mythril Golem's attacks are physical. Which is to say, for most attacks, your goal is to remain out of range of the boss itself. This is fairly easy to get the hang of, except arguably in the case of Leaping Strike.

Regardless, especially for the first half of the battle, it's probably best that you maintain control of Barret and keep a wide berth at all times.

In the second half, the Mythril Golem will grow in size. Its suite of attacks will include projectile-based strikes, so you'll need to be more nimble. One of its new attacks shoots straight ahead for large damage, while the other fires off a comparbly weak barrage with a wide area-of-effect.

Mythril Golem Battle Strategy

Barret nearly staggers the Mythril Guardian in FF7 Rebirth

As we've mentioned, prioritize Barret as your controlled character. Head into the battle with Red XIII equipped with the Lightning Materia so that he doesn't need to get in too close to this bulwark of a baddie (and when his ATB charge is up, make sure he ca🌊sts it).

In the first phase, take the time to target and destroy the Mythril Golem's head. This will pressure the Mythril Golem, so pepper it with Focused Shot and Thunder thereafter.

Once the Mythril Golem is at its midway point, when it grows considerably in size, it's a little safer to get up closer to defend as Red XIII until Vengeance Mode is charged.

Vengeance Mode increases Red's attack power and speed, but the best thing about it in this case is that Siphon Fang will let Red gain some HP back. This isn't a fight that we can have a dedicated healer for, per se, so the self-sufficiency of Siphon Fang is invaluableꦉ.

If Barret and Red's Synergy Strike pops (and it likely will), save it until the Mythril Golem is staggered and watch a💎s its HP bar is cleaved through l💟ike butter.
