Final Fantasy𓂃 7 Rebirth takes everything you've learned in Remake and cranks it up even ♓higher.

There's even another form of Limit Break in almost every sense, even if it's got a different name. So, there's a lot to parse hereꦆ! Here's your primer on how Limit Breaks (and their similar companions) function, as well as when to use them to the greatest adva🅷ntage.

What Are Limit Breaks In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

In short, Limit Breaks function more or less identically to how they do in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. In essence, at least. The biggest change is how you can now tap into certain character abilities to hasten the speed at which your party members build💟 their Limit gauge.

This is kind of a game-changer. In Remake, there were several ways to build the enemy stagger bar (which is now more important than ever), but in Rebirth, you have a greater degree of control over how fast you'll build Limits.

So, how many Limit Breaks are there, and how do you get them? Your party members each begin with two, a 'level one' Limit and a 'level two' Limit. The level one Limit requires a single ATB charge, and it's usually pretty sweet. Level two Limits need both ATB bars charged.

Don't make the mistake of assuming there's no reason to use the level one Limits, like Cloud's Cross-Slash, over their level twos, like his Ascension. Many abilities in FF7 Rebirth are situational, including Limits. Make sure to read the label, so to 🃏speak!

There are also level three Limit Breaks, which are new to FF7 Rebirth. In Remake, there were just the two of them. You acquire these late into your Folio development, which means you will be putting in tons of SP to advance their boards before they get there.

When To Use Limit Breaks

It might go without saying, but use your Limit Breaks on more difficult and prolonged battles. Additionally, always consider the situation before defaulting to a Limit Break.

While there's no penalty for 'misusing' them save for some lost time, there are frequently better tactics to employ in a given situation, like Synergy Abilities and Stagger-building strikes.

Put plainly, take a moment to examine your options before you pull the trigger on that Limit Break.

Synergy Skills - The Other Limit Breaks

There's a new kid in town. Exclusive to FF7 Rebirth, Synergy Skills combine two characters' techniques into a single attack, and they've got plenty of benefits that make them as alluring as Limits, if not more so.

To qualify for one's usage, first you must learn the Synergy Skill on the Folio board. Then, you've got to have the proper party composition, since if you're going to use, say, Avalanche Two-Step - a Barret and Tifa skill - you can't do so without them in your active party.

You only need to nab the Synergy Skill on 🐈one character's Folio - each individual listing covers groun♛d for both characters.

Synergy Skills build up toward usage differently than Limit Breaks. Look for pip-like symbols beside many character abilities, such as Focused Thrust and Dive Kick. Each pip you 'earn' fills one bar toward the Synergy Skill, which usually costs around three to fiveꦰ for both participants.
