The Synergy system is doubtless the single biggest evolution in 's battle system, a system which builds upon the foundation of FF7 Remake's to take a thrilling combat suite to greater heights. Between Synergy Skills and Sꦯynergy Abilities, there's a lot of synergizing going on.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's single biggest change to its battle system is the introducti🦋on ofꦡ Synergy techniques, which we'll explain right here.

You only have so much ﷺSP to spend on your characters' folios, however; and deciding how to spend it at Maghnata Books can be an exercise in choice paralysis. There's no wrong way to do it, but if you want to make sure your party's prepped for early parlay༒s, pick these first.

Counterfire

Counterfire Synergy Skill in FF7 Rebirth

You'll probably see the Synergy Skill Counterfire in action during the Nibelheim flashback, and you'll want to make it yours on a permanent basis ASAP. Cloud's Punisher character ability is great for defending attacks and leaving foes wide open with them.

So, why not learn Counterfire, and team up with a partner to negate aerial attacks - and strike back in turn? FF7 Rebirth's airborne fiends are handily some of its most insidious, especially if you don't have a plan ꦚin place.

But you can beat those flyers at their own game with Counterfire - in fact, many aerial enemies are pressured when struck by it.

Divine Punishment

Divine Punishment Synergy Ability in FF7 Rebirth

The Synergy Ability Divine Punishment (Synergy Skills can be used infinitely; Synergy Abilities must be charged by using Character Abilities) teams Tifa with Aerith in a spectacular attack that has the excellent perk of raising both their Limit Levels.

Divine Punishment stands out in a crowd for two key reasons. First, Tifa and Aerith will be in a locked party configuration alongside Cloud in an early dungeon, the Mythril Mine. Having this handy will be helpful while you're there, especially against the boss fight.

Furthermore, raising Aerith's Limit Level during a pivotal battle means you'll have quicker access to her Level 2 Limit Break, which gives the party temporary invulnerability to physical attacks. It's as good as it sounds, believe us.

Overfang

Overfang Synergy Ability in FF7 Rebirth

Pardon this next one for being a bit of a repeat. The Synergy Ability Overfang, starring Barret and Red XIII, has the same𝐆 thing going for it that Divine Punishment does.

In the same dungeon that Tifa and Aerith's Divine Punishment is so helpful, Barret and Red are also stuck in a party together. This time, there's no third, either - Cloud's off with the gals! As such, having Overfang in your arsenal when battling the Barret/Red boss is a huge boon.

Slip And Slide

Slip and Slide Synergy Ability in FF7 Rebirth

Slip and Slide, a Synergy Skill, plays perfectly into [the palm of] Tifa's hand. Since Tifa is such a nimble and fast-paced fighter, it's great to have something that'll let her consistently dodge out of harm's way without breaking up your barrage of punches.

Think of Slip and Slide like something of a brake pedal for when enemies telegraph moves that can be evaded. Tifa taps a partner (Cloud, Aerith, Yuffie, and Cait Sith are all eliglble), dodges, and then delivers an extra hit of her own if you nail the timing.

Bodyguard

Bodyguard Synergy Skill in FF7 Rebirth

The Synergy Skill Bodyguard is available for a few characters, but for the purposes of this article, we're thinking about Aerith specifically. Aerith's Defense is... lacking, that's a nice way of putting it. She makes up for it with a sky-high Magic Attack, but yeah, total glass cannon.

While Aerith does have character abilities that help keep her alive, and we do recommend you use them, you'll want something that can put some distance between Aerith and your foes as frequently as yꦕou need. Bodyguard yanks another party member to soak up the hit.

This doesn't always work, mind you. It would be kind of ridiculous if it did! Enemies that launch projectiles and magic attacks will probably still hit both Aerith and her, welꦛl, bodyguard. Bu🍎t it's the mighty swings of claws and jaws that will really ruin Aerith's day, and those are fair game.
