Every side quest, every game of Queen's Blood, every tower, every hidden cave of secrets, every combat encounter... everything. A total wipeout. And it felt so nice I had to do it twice.
Everything In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Open World Feels Achievable
When I opened up the map to begin this conquest, I saw that I had 14 things still to do, plus a few side quests that had several stages to them. It seemed like a lot. But at the same time, it was quantifiably a lot. I knew exactly how much stuff I had to do. In most open world games, activities lead to more activities lead to more activities. They market this as a good thing, this endless buffet of sugary chum. It's content, baby! But it makes games overwhelming and shallow, giving us extended sections of dull lulls in the name of stretching out runtime like sawdust in a meatloaf.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not endless. The fact there is a constant tracker on every activity means you know exactly how long you have left, while each individual task is short and doesn't overstay its welcome. The combat tasks are 'go here and fight this thing'. The tower tasks are 'go here and push this button'. The secrets tasks are 'go here and find a cave'. They might seem boring when you explain them this way, but being digestible is a good thing. Lots of food comparisons. It's nearly lunch here.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's structure allows you the satisfaction of constantly crossing them off and seeing your progress in real time. Even the quests that have several parts to them make several crosses on the list, so you're always getting through things. Those 14 things to do quickly drop to five or six, and you've explored more interesting parts of the map without realising it because you're always on the move.
The fact these longer quests evolve as they go mean you're also telling a story. You have the actual side quests and their narratives, but the map activities have some flavour (still hungry) too. Sure, activating a tower isn't the most riveting part of the game, but the combat tasks all have different challenges that teach you to best utilise your party line-ups, while 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Chadley's task always has some story to it, whether that be hunting down bandits or being sucked into an alternate universe where you look like '90s video game polygons and play Fort Condor.
Right after sweeping up the tasks in Upper Junon, I headed back to the Grasslands and cleared out all the tasks there, where I needed another 14. If I'd seen that I needed to do 28 tasks, I might have given up and found that too much hassle, pressing on with the main story without searching out all of the extra adventures to be had. But two sets of 14 seemed far easier than one set of 28, despite them basically being the same thing. That's because Final Fantasy's smaller, more concentrated maps allow for a great sense of relief as you complete them, which also has the knock on effect of zero wasted space.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's maps are teeming with activities, and allow you to conquer them at a pace that feels earned but doesn't waste your time. They don't do anything special, but it's in not trying to that they become extremely satisfying. I'm now looking forward to my next break for activating towers rather than dreading it, and that's much more effective than content for the sake of it.
