There are plenty of big differences between Final Fantasy VII Remake and the original game. Graphics aside, the most noticeable is perhaps the addition of a second bike sectio🍌n which takes place at the beginning of Chapter 4. ജIt's every bit as annoying as the bike section that comes after escaping from the Shinra building in the original game but manages to be considerably worse due to the complete lack of narrative tension.

Love it or loathe it though, completing it is an essential part of the game (at least on your first playthrough, anyway) and those hoping to unlock the game's platinum༒ trophy will need to do so while taking minimal damage; something that's easier said than done. It will likely take most players multiple attempts to figure out the best way of approaching it. Either that or a helpful guide that explains how everything works. As always, we've got you covered on that front.

Mechanics

The controls for the first bike section in Final Fantasy VII Remake

Thankfully, controlling the bike is fairly simple. You'll use your analogue stick to steer and accelerate and brake using R2 and L2 respectively. The circle button can be used to attack enemies on the right while the squarꦛe button makes Cloud swing his sword to the left. Pressing triangle will unleash Cloud's Spinning Slash attack and there's also a ranged attack that can be unleashed by holding L1 and then pressing triangle. Use these two attacks wisely though as there's a fairly substantial cooldown. It is possible to speed up the rate that it charges by hitting the little ramps, but it's generally not worth the effort. You can also block by holding R1 although again, it's generally easier to just dodge instead.

Strategy

The Shinra grunts in the first bike section of Final Fantasy VII Remake

The section is split into two parts, the first of which is fairly simple as you'll mainly be dealing with waves of Shinra grunts. They'll generally target Wedge and Biggs and so try and keep up with them in order to minimize the damage they take. After taking out a few waves, they'll begin to throw fireballs in front of you so drop back a little and dodge them until the e💎nemies slow down enough to be in range.

The drones in the first bike section of Final Fantasy VII Remake

After a while some drones will joi🍌n the party. They're fairly easy to take out, but if you're not careful they can do a lot of damage very quickly. You'll be able to dodge their projectile attacks by avoiding the red aiming reticle and can avoid their shock at🍌tack by getting out of the way when you see their propellers contracting beneath them.

Roche appears during the first bike section of Final Fantasy VII Remake

Not long after you get ou🎃t of the tunnel, a Shinra Soldier named Roche will show up and it's here where things can get a little tricky. He'll alternate between firing projectiles from ahead of you and dropping back to fight you side by side. While he's ahead, focus on dodging or blocking his projectiles and fire off your ranged attack whenever you're able.

Roche's lightning attack in Final Fantasy VII Remake

When he's up close, hit him as much as you can but keep an eye out for him raisingඣ his front or rear wheel into the air and be ready to get out of the way if you see him doing so. It's also worth noting that Cloud has a slightly longer reach than Roche thanks to the monstrous size of the Buster Sword. With this in mind, only get as close as you need to in order for your attacks to land.

Cloud defeats Roche at the end of the first bike section in Final Fantasy VII Remake

After his health falls to around 30% he'll begin to summon bolts of lighting that are a lot more difficult to dodge than his earlier projectiles. Slam on the breaks to give yourself a bit more r🦩esponse time and hold the guard button to minimize damage in the event that you're hit. Depending on how aggressive you are you'll either need to get through one or two of these phases before tri🔯ggering the cutscene that ends the section.

The special cutscene at the end of the first bike section in Final Fantasy VII Remake

If you were able to complete the section with 80% or more of your HP remaining you'll be rewarded with a special cutscene and the Biker Boy trophy will be unlocked. If, however, Jessie tells Cloud that he failed the test, you'll need to retry the section if you want the trophy. Unlike the game's other mini games, this one can't be retried straight away and so you'll either need to reload your save file, restart the chapter complete👍ly or come back to it later.
