Final Fanta🎃sy 7 is also known for introducing famous weapons like the Buster Sword. The massive blade is comically large compared to other swords, and while it’s one of the weaker weapons in the game, the Buster Sword became the most fam😼ous. We take a look at the history of Cloud Strife’s weapon and where else you might’ve seen this sword.

Behind The Scenes - The Buster Sword

The Buster Sword is Cloud’s default we🅘apon in Final Fantasy 7, as well as the main featured image on the game’s main menu. The blade of the sword measures somewhere between five and six feet long, with a somewhat stubby hilt and a blade💙 that tapers

With its massive blade, the Buster Sword is considered an oversized broadsword. Two slots near the handle are used to equip Materia, but it wasn’t until 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7 Remake that you could specifically see the Mat🌌eria. The name may be derived from the real-world sword, the basওtard sword, changed to make the name feel less offensive.

Early concept art for the Buster sword depicted the weapon as being smaller and slightly thinner, with only one slot in the weapon to hold materia. Initially, Tetsuya Nomura wanted the Buster Sword to be more unrefined, describing the weapon as more of a 'Giant Kitchen Knife' and less of a weapon of war.

Forging Of The Buster Sword

Although the Buster Sword first appeared in Final Fantasy 7 as Cloud Strife’s primary weapon, its origins do not lie with him. The sword was originally forged by Angeal Hewley’s stepfather before the events of Crisis Core - Final Fantasy 7.

Tragically, Angeal's stepfather passed away as a result of the weapon. He needed to borrow money to purchase the metal used to craft the blade, working himself to the bone to pay off the debt while working the blade. All the exertion on the older man resulted in him falling ill and eventually dying.

Angeal rarely used the weapon in combat despite ܫcarrying it with him at all times, as he was worried about damaging it since it was something that his late stepfather made. He would instead use a standard SOLDIER sword, carrying the Buster Sword with him as a moment of his father.

Zack And Cloud Wielding The Buster Sword

After some time, Angeal rose through the SOLDIER ranks and eventually became a mentor to a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:young cadet named Zack Fair. During a mission, Zack mentions how Angeal hardly uses the Buster Sword, and he tells him how it’s more special than Zack.

Later on, Angeal loses control and fights Zack. Ultimately, Zack overpowers Angeal but mortally wounds his former mentor. Before Angeal dies, he gives Zack the Buster Sword, so his pupil will remember his past honor. Zack accepts the gift, though he chooses to put the weapon to use. That isn't to say Zack isn't careful with the Buster Sword however, as he swings the blade with the blunt end of the weapon instead of the blade.

Zack’s time in SOLDIER led him to meet Cloud Strife. The pair were extremely similar in appearance except Zack’s hair was black and Cloud’s was blonde. The two would take on a friendship much like Zack's was with Angeal, with him stepping into a mentor role for a brief time.

At the end of the events of Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core, as the two are returning to Midgar, they are attacked just outside the city by Shinra soldiers. Similar to Angeal giving him the blade before he died, Zack gave Cloud the Buster Sword.

Cloud quickly adapts to using the massive blade, becoming proficient with the weapon in a short amount of time, likely thanks to the various experimentꦜs that were performed on him with Jenova Cells and the Mako poisoning he sustained.

Although you can change Cloud's weapon during Final Fantasy 7 and Remake, all the cutscenes feature Cloud wielding the Buster Sword. Because of this, you cannot sell or get rid of tꦑhe Buster Sword in the original game through conventional means.

It's his trademark weapon, and he uses it throughout his battle against Sephiroth. However, after the destruction caused by the Meteor, Cloud leaves the weapon on a cliff as a remembrance. In the sequel film Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, Cloud has left the Buster Sword on the same cliff that saw Zack's death as a memorial to his friend. Unfortunately, the sword has become rusted over since it has been left to the elements. Cloud has since moved on to using the impressive Fusion Swords, which when combined, have the same silhouette as the Buster Sword.

After defeating Kadaj 𒀰and the resurrected Sephiroth, the original Buster Sword is moved to the Sector 5 slum church where Aerith Gainsborough grew her flowers. Presumably, it was Cloud who moved the sword, which is now clean and polished to its original shine.

Appearances Of The Buster Sword In Other Media

Besides Final Fantasy 7 and its spin-offs, the Buster Sword has appeared most famously in Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 12, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, Monster Hunter, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Adventure Time.
