You can't have a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy game without summons. It would be like having peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly. The sunrise without the sun, or trees without leaves. Well, maybe not as serious as that, but you get the idea: you can't really have one without the other. Though, there are times when the summons play a more relevant role within the story.

Case in point: Final Fantasy 6 puts the summons, or Espers as they are known here, at the forefront of both the story and the lore — most Espers have hidden away after being sought out and either killed or used as weapons. Though they've remained hidden for a long time, they are slowly being revealed and used in experiments. While some are more powerful than others, each one has a place in the hearts of many.

10 Ragnarok

Ragnarok on the right using Metamorphose

If you're familiar with the Norse Mythology story of Ragnarok, you'll know that its name represents power, and strikes fear into the hearts of many as the bringer of the end of the world. However, in Final Fantasy 6, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the mighty sword (or Magicite, dep꧋ending on your꧅ choices) serves a completely different purpose.

When summoned into battle, he, like many others on this list, does not actively cause damage to the enemies. Instead, he has the option of transforming an enemy into an item. That's all. The item depends on which monster you use it on, with potions being the most plentiful. You don't want to miss out on the dried meat that beast-type monsters provide.

9 Quetzalli

Quezalli picking up a party member and about to take off

Quetzalli, the Esper of Haste, is another summon that does not attack. Unlike Ragnarok, this beautiful bird casts Haste 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:over the entire party, acceleratin🎉g your attacks against your enemies. The purple-feathered summon picks you up and dashes you away, awakening the fiery speed demon hidden within your characters.

However, that is not the only benefit of this summon. If you equip it, you'll learn not only Haste and its party-targeting Hastega, but also Slow and Slowga to bring enemies' battle gauges to a halt. It's very useful if you needed to quickly turn the tide of battle.

8 Shiva

Shiva casting diamond dust onto her enemies

Of course, our ice queen must make an appearance. Shiva has appeared in every Final Fantasy title since FF3, and has grown in popularity in the titles that have followed. Her appearance changes with each game, a𝐆nd in FF6, she is seen with a shorter, punk rock-style hairstyle — a stark contrast to her long hair in the previous games.

Diamond Dust is her ultimate move, and it deals cold damage to all enemies on the field. While she is useful in the early game, her damage output is insufficient to carry you through to the endgame. The spells you learn from her, such as Blizzard and Osmose, can be useful, and you have a better chance of learning the stronger versions of those spells. This renders Shiva's versions of the spells inferior.

7 🎃 🎀 Zona Seeker

Zona Seeker casting its shield to protect the little duckies

Spells can be inconvenient, and leave you vulnerable to additional damage — and even death — in-game. This is where Zona Seeker enters the picture. When summoned, Zona casts Shell over the entire party, halving the magical damage from incoming attacks. It's especially useful when fighting bosses, as most of them use magic damage without pausing.

Rasp is the most interesting of the spells it teaches you. It deals non-elemental MP damage to the enemy, which means that you not only drain their ability to use magic, but certain monsters are defeated this way — draining them to zero MP kills them. You learn its spells quickly, with only one other Esper, Alexander, beating its spell-learning sღpeed.

6 Golem

Golem standing in front of Kefka...menacingly

Golem isn't the series' most epic-looking summon. His body is rusted, and he doesn't have much to offer in terms of attack. But none of that matters, because this golem is mighty. His ability, Earthen Wall, protects the party from incoming attacks for up to the caster's maximum HP when cast.

Depending on who casts it, that could be three to four hits with no damage taken. That may not seem like much, but when you're up against 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The World Of Ruin's clown prince, any chance to save s𓆉ome health is worth it. Cura can also be learned from him, though not as quickly as from Seraph.

5 Fenrir

Fenrir turning into the literal moon instead of howling at it

While Golem's Earthen Wall is based on the caster's max HP, Fenrir's similar summon ability, Image, is powered by chance. For each hit you take while Image is cast, there is a 25 percent chance of losing your protection — but you also have a chance of the spell riding out much more than that, perhaps even the entire battle.

This makes sense, given that Fenrir's etymology states that he is a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:powerful and terrifying wolf whose lineage includes being Loki's son and becoming the World Eater once Ragnarok begins. His summoning name is Howling Moon, and the form is quite literal on screen as he's casting Image over the party.

4 Unicorn

Unicorn casting healing horn for the party

Anyone who's anyone has heard of a unicorn — a legendary wild and horned horse that can't be found by mere mortals like you and me. However, it seems the Gestahlian Empire certainly did find one. They held it captive for sixteen years and drained it of its energy to power their Magitek weapons. By the time the party reached Unicorn it was too late — the creature was lost, transformed into a Magicite to be used in battle.

And what a power it is! Not only does Unicorn's Healing Horn ability heal the party for a moderate amount of damage, but it also casts Esuna, ridding them of most ailments outside of the likes of Doom and Death.

3 Phoenix

Phoenix on the right reviving downed characters

The great Phoenix of legend is saidꦰ to bring back to life what was once dea🎉d. This Magicite was hidden away by the Empire, deep inside a cave, and the party sets out to find it. Once they do, they bring Phoenix back with them to try and return a wife to her husband, but the Magicite cracks and is destroyed.

Despite the damage to the Magicite, a miracle occurs — the wife wakes up after all. However, it's only temporary; she wakes for just long enough to tell her husband 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:not to feel guilty about her death. After their goodbyes, she offers herself to the Magicite, and it is reborn. Phoenix doesn't have an attack like it does in other Final Fantasy games, but it does still revive the whole party with 25 percent of their total HP.

2 Raiden

Raiden getting ready to instakill his enemies

Let me state unequivocally: Odin is Raiden. They are of the same flesh, but Odin's long-dead Magicite was transformed into Raiden by his queen's forbidden love. Raiden serves the same purpose in battle as Odin, but with an upgrade from Zantetsuken to Shin-Zantetsuken. Raiden has a better chance of instantly killing enemies on the other side of the field, excluding those immune to Death.

During the War of the Magi, the queen had a long-standing crush on Odin. Because she was human, a๊nd he was an Esper, their love was forbidden. She decided to confess her love after the war was over, but the castle fell, and both she and her love became petrified and lost to time.

1 Alexander

Alexander casting his Divine Judgement

This towering Holy powerhouse, which first appeared in Final Fantasy 6, allows the party (aside from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Terra and Celes) to learn both Holy and the coveted Dispel spell, which removes all positive 🌳status effects from enemies. With an attack potency of 114, his Holy-based attack, Divine Judgement, is nothi🐲ng to sneeze at.

Have you seen what the Divine Judgement looks like? A massive, imposing, and most likely sentient castle opens its mouth and fires a laser from it. This may not appear to be a big deal at first, but once he fi♌nishes aiming with hi💝s laser, the entire screen erupts with pure Holy magic, dealing significant damage to anyone vulnerable to the element.
