It wouldn't be Fallout without vaults coming into play and the Fallout TV show has some unique and shocking new ideas about what it can do with them, or more like, to the people in them. Vaults are typicꦕally not fun places you want to be in, often the site of some of the most chilling Vault-Tec experiments in Fallout history, and the ones the show has in stor🍌e further make that case.

One of the show's main characters is a young woman named Lucy MacLean who grows up in Vault 33 with her brother and father. You spend as much time in the vaults as you do in the wasteland throughout the episodes, but there are also a couple of twists thrown in that might require a little more explanation.

Vault 33

Vault 33 is where the main Vaul𒊎t Dweller characters in the Fallout show re🌠side. On the surface, they seem like an idyllic community with an overly nice Overseer, a thriving corn field, and a jello cake habit. You also learn they have a Governing Council in addition to an Overseer consisting of three members – Betty Pearson, Woody Thomas, and Reg McPhee.

The purpose of Vault 33 is to work in symbiosis with Vaults 31 and 32 in establishing a partnership of intermarrying and breeding while also trading for each other's valuable resources, as part of a tripartite society. Being wed, giving birth, and cultivating are very common practices of Vault 33, as well as Vault-schooling children in classrooms. Some recreational activities include fencing, watching movies, and gymnastics.

This Vault has a Gate-Keeper named Chet, who's the cousin of Norm and Lucy MacLean, the children of Overseer Hank MacLean. Really, this Vault is an experimental gene pool of members from Vault 32 who become 33's citizens through marriage. The theme is very eugenics-driven. It's believed that these residents hold the most superior genetics to make new humans that would one day 'reclaim' the surface in an event known to them as Reclamation Day.

Vault 32

It's believed they had already slaughtered all of Vault 32 when they came to advance their attack in 33 to kidnap Hank.

Norm MacLean and Chet later find out what really occurred in Vault 32. You assume life in that vault carried on much the same as in Vault 33, even the corn crop and the misguided propaganda of R♑eclamation Day, yet it becomes clear its inhabitants discovered the actual truth behind this interconnected Vault experiment and what Vault-Tec did, based on the writings on the wall and how some of them died.

The state that the bodies were in was definitely not the recent doing of the Raiders, meaning 32 had already failed long before the events that kicked off the show and made it only easier for the Raiders to 🐓infiltrate 𒐪Vault 33. Some members died trying to get into Vault 31, others turned to cannibalism, and many committed suicide. There are also signs of possible torture.

All of this evidence was, of course, quickly covered up by the Governing Council's Betty Pearson when she became suspicious that Norm knew, and Vault 32 got a reset with members selectively transferred from Vault 33, including Lucy's cousin Chet and her friend Stephanie, now a mother with a newborn.

Vault 31

Vault 31 is like the wizard-behind-the-curtain moment of the Fallout TV show, and probably the most important Vault of the series. You learn that it's the brainchild of the actual Brain-on-a-Roomba Bud Askins from before the bombs were dropped, a project coined 'Bud's Buds.'

The Overseers ofꦫ Vaults 32 and 33 emerge from the cryogenic pods stored in Vault 31 and are a sample of employees from Vault-Tec🌳, like Hank MacLean and Betty Pearson. The hope was to create generations of Vault-Tec loyalists to be the first to dominate the wasteland.

Vault 4 came as a pleasant surprise to both audience members and characters Lucy and Maximus, at least initially. The duo stumbled upon a hospital to get aid for a Fiend bullet lodged in Maximus' shoulder, only to end up falling through a trap door to find themselves in Vault 4.

Right away, everyone seems friendly and all smiles and the doctor even helps Maximus remove his bullet. When they find out Lucy is fro﷽m Vault 33, the reception is even warmer, and Maximus gets his own accommodations with a complimentary care package featuring classic Vault-Tec snacks and caviar, even a robe and slippers, which he finds most impressive.

But you soon start to see things are not quite as picturesque in Vault 4's society. The first sign of trouble is that Lucy and Maximus are deceived into thinking they're in a quarantine cell when they're really inside a 'Test Subjects' containment area.

Vault 4's Overseer is also a Cyclops, another dweller has unnatural blue eyes, and there are some with ears on their heads and extra noses straight from Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future. Level 12 is also a restricted area, which Lucy discovers is host to all sorts of horrifying data and contains pods𒊎 of frozen human test subjects impregnated by only knows what; one video showed a woman birthing car🔯nivorous fish that devoured her right after.

In Cooper Howard's advertisement for Vault 4, you learn that it would be strictly populated with 80 scientific minds to conduct research and experiments on creating hybrids of humans and "radioactive-resistant species," led by Lloyd Hawthorne. In the next episode, you understand what became of those scientists.

Their own creations take control of Vault 4 after retaliating and killing everyone. Some of the remaining members, including Overseer Benjamin, are descendants of those experiments. The Gulper who ate Hawthorne also happens to be Benjamin's great-uncle, so now you know where those came from.
