To heal irradiated Dwellers✅, you need to treat them with RadAway as soon as possible. For Dwellers who have taken a heavy beating, whether from adventuring or saving the Vault from emergencies, you will need to give them a Stimpak to restore lost health.
What Is RadAway?
As they explore the Wasteland and encounter its inhabitants, your Vault Dwellers are bound to pick up a few Rads (or Radiation points). Rads are the red portion of a Vault Dweller's health bar and indicate how irradiated that Dweller is.
Irradiated Dwellers are lethargic, ill, and unhappy, and over time, they may even die. Rads will also lower Health points over time, eating into your Dwellers' Health bar.
Vault Dwellers who are otherwise well cared for will regain Health points and lose Rads over time.
To heal your Vault Dwellers from Radiation poisoning, you need to give them RadAway.
RadAway is a medical item, stored in your inventory tab, that removes 50 percent of the Dweller's total healtꦚh bar worth of Radiation.
So, if half of your Dweller's health bar is lit up red, one RadAway will remove all the red. Any further than the halfway point, you will need to use two RadAway packs♎.
RadAway and Stimpaks do not take up inventory space in your Storage Facilities. You can check your RadAway and Stimpak inventory by looking at the bottom right of your Vault's inventory tab.
How To Get RadAway
You can get RadAway a few different ways, but the most reliable way to get it is by crafting it in a Science Lab. The Science Lab is a specialized room that uses a Dweller's Intelligence stat to craft RadAway from scratch.
You can have as many Science Labs as you want in your Vault.
You can unlock the Science Lab after having 16 Dwellers in your Vault. Your first Science Lab costs 400 Caps to build.
Less reliable methods of obtaining RadAway include finding it as loot in Lunchboxes, dropped from Raiders and other enemies, found in crates at Wasteland destinations, and earned from quests.
How To Use RadAway
There are two maꦑin methods to healing your Dwellers with RadAway.
The first method is to heal them manually. To do this, select an irradiated Vault Dweller and click the RadAway symbol on their character screen. RadAway looks like a blood bag with a nuclear waste symbol on it (a circle with three wedges inside).
The second method is used only on Vault Dwellers who are exploring the Wasteland.
In the Vault, Dwellers who need to use RadAway or Stimpaks urgently will have a green Stimpak or RadAway symbol above their heads. Pressing this symbol will automatically apply whichever item is needed, and heal that Dweller.
Upon sending a Dweller into the Wasteland, you must equip them with outfits, weapons, pets, and healing items. Use the plus and minus buttons above or below the RadAway symbol to increase or decrease the amount of Ra☂dAway you are sending ဣwith your explorer.
When your Wasteland explorer is irradiated, they will automatically apply the RadAway to themselves. Any unused RadAway they return to the Vault can be returned to your storage facilities and used for another Dweller.
You must manually use RadAway and Stimpaks on Wasteland explorers who are clearing random encounter locations in the Wasteland. The same goes for clearing Quest locations.
What Are Stimpaks?
Stimpaks function similarly to RadAway and can be obtained earlier in the game. While RadAway eliminates radiation from your Vault Dwellers, Stimpaks are used to heal them.
A Vault Dweller's health bar is separated into two categories: red and green. Any red sections of the health bar indicate Radiation points, while green sections indicate Health. The goal is for the whole bar to be lit up green.🎃 You want as little red as possible (preferably zero).
A Stimpak is used to replenish half of your Vault Dwellers' Health bar and fill any black portions back up with green. One Stimpak will only heal a Vault Dweller for half the value of the Health Bar. To fully heal an empty Health Bar, you need two Stimpaks.
Stimpaks cannot remove red Radiation Points, so you will have to use RadAway first if you want to heal your Vault Dweller's f💦ull Health bar.
Stimpaks cannot be used to resurrect deceased Dwellers. You n𝕴eed to use 𒁏Stimpaks when your Dwellers are injured.
How To Get Stimpaks
You can get Stimpaks in the same ways you can get RadAway. The only difference is that Stimpaks are produced in a Medbay and not a Science Lab.
The Medbay is unlocked upon reaching a total of 14 Dwellers in your Vault. Just like the Science Lab, the Medbay costs 400 Caps to build, and Dwellers assigned to the Medbay will use their Intelligence stat to craft Stimpaks.
You can train a Dweller's Intelligence stat in the Classroom.
Alternatively, you can collect Stimpaks from fallen enemies, boxes in random encounter locations, quests, or Lunchboxes.
How To Use Stimpaks
When a Vault Dweller 𝕴is injured, the green in their Health bar will decrease. Sometimes, the other half of the Health bar will be lit up with Radiation points, but other times, it will just be empty.
Radiation eats away at your Vault Dwellers' Health Bars and as long as there are red Radiation points in a Dweller's Health bar, the Health Point maximum is decreased. Even if you use a Stimpak, you can only recover as much Health as reaches the leftmost edge of the red Radiation bar.
So, if fifty percent of the bar is red and fifty percent is green, using a Stimpak will not heal any of the red portions. You must use RadAway to get rid of Radiation points before using a Stimpak to regain lost health (unleꦏss there is a black gap be♛tween the green and red portions).
Just like RadAway, you can also equip adventuring Vault Dwellers with Stimpaks before they leave for the Wasteland. These Dwellers will also use Stimpaks as they adventure to replenish their Health bar. The process is automatic.
You can't equip Stimpaks or RadAway on a Dweller who is already exploring the Wasteland, and Wasteland adventurers can have a maximum of 25 Stimpaks or RadAway each.
What Happens When Your Vault Dwellers Die?
Sometimes, bad things happen, and you just don't have enough time or resources to fix them. When you can't heal a Vault Dweller in time, their Health bar will deplete to zero.
A Vault Dweller with an empty Health bar will enter a death animation and eventually collapse. You can't use RadAway or Stimpaks to revive your dead Dwellers. You can only use healing items on Dwellers that are w🦋ounded, but still breathing.
When a Dweller dies, you can either choose to resurrect the Dweller by paying Caps or to remove the Dweller's corpse from the Vault. If you cho﷽ose to pay caps to revive the Dweller, they will spring back to life as if nothing happened.
However, choosing to remove a Dweller will permanently remove them from your Vault. You'll still get to keep any loot, outfits, weapons, or pets that wꦍere on thei🐠r body.
If a male Dweller dies before their pregnant partner gives birth, they will show up as a grave symbol in the baby Dweller's birth screen.
