Ultimately, both games feel unfocused and spread too thin, like Bethesda had too many new ideas to introduce instead of updating the general formula or creating a world that f𓆉elt daunting yet immersive. Starfield should have felt like an endless stream of planets to explore, but instead it boils down to a loading screen sim where you spend more timeᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ docking and undocking from space stations than anything else.
There was a clear desire to make these games bigger and more ambitious🔯 thꦿan ever, but in chasing these creative visions, Bethesda may have created huge games that players could, in theory, spend hundreds of hours on, but I bet you never did.
Fallout 3 and Skyrim, on the other hand, while still lacking in plenty of departments, are both ripe for repeat playthroughs and continued experimentation because they are tight, focused, and filled with iconic locations and quests that are worth seeing through more than once. I want the smaller and denser worlds of these games but with deeper quests, nuanced characters, or design philosophies that don’t broaden horizons, but build upon what we have.

Give me a world to explore, characters to meet, and fewer building mechanics to master. Fallout would be so much stronger for leaving them behind or embracing w꧋hat made this series so special in the first place.
Bethesda needs to take a long hard look at the games it has made over the past two decades𒀰 and consider what worked, what didn’t, and how it can take such disparate parts and turn them into something special. Draw from every Fallout game, even the Interplay classics and New Vegas, and start looking back so you can finally move forward.
