Each faction has its own set of main and side quests, and while some are serious missions, others are absolutely hilarious and filled with silly narratives.
The Great Hunt is a side quest you can start in the town of Far Harbor, and it rewards you with a unique outfit upon completion. You'll need to know how to finish 'The Great Hunt' if you hope to earn your new set of special clothing, so here's everything you'll need to start and finish this exciting mission.

How To Start The Great Hunt Quest
Unlocking The Great Hunt is easy if you know where to look. Thereꦡ are a few prerequisite side quests you need to complete involving The Mariner before you can staౠrt The Great Hunt:
- Hull Breach
- Hull Breach Two
- Hull Breach Three
All of these quests involve you helping The Mariner fix Far Harbor's main wall.
You will also need to be in good standing with Far Harbor since they're directly involved in The Great Hunt.
Travel to Far Harbor and speak to The Mariner. This character is a woman with black hair, and you can find her at Allen Lee's Shop on the pier or near Far Harbor's gate during the day. She may also be closer to Far Harbor's pier occasionally. Speak to The Mariner, and she'll explain that there's a creature destroying boats off the coast of Far Harbor and it's causing the town a lot of trouble.
The creature in question is nicknamed the Red Death and all of the people in Far Harbor seem to be afraid of it. Agreeing to help The Mariner def🐽eat the beast grants you The Great Hunt quest and allows you to board your boat once again.
How To Beat The Red Death
There are several steps in The Great Hunt. However, it's a linear quest, so there aren't too many branching paths to experience. You don't need to collect any particular supplies before you begin, as there's less combat in The Great Hunt than you might initially assume. Here's each step and a few tips for completing this mission swiftly.
Board The Boat
After speaking to The Mariner and agreeing to help her, you need to board the boat that you used to travel to The Island in the first place. Your boat is at Far Harbor's pier exactly where you left it. However, before you can board your boat, Avery will approach and tell you to stop wasting your time with this wild goose chase. Other than this piece of dialogue, Avery won't intervene with the mission.
Search For The Red Death
Once you travel to the small island using your boat, you can hop off and speak to The Mariner. She'll tell you to search for the Red Death. However, you'll quickly realize upon looking around that this creature is incredibly small and much weaker than the legends would suggest.

The Mariner will be surprised by the Red Death's small size. Even so, she'll give you an outfit for your help. Now that you have 🧸your reward, discuss wha🌳t to tell the citizens of Far Harbor.
Travel Back To Far Harbor
Board your boat and travel to Far Harbor. Upon landing on The Island, many townspeople will greet you, and you will have the chance to tell your story. You can make the story seem exciting or pretend that you didn't encounter the Red Death at all. If you tell the truth about the Red Death, the townspeople will berate The Mariner.
Exaggerating the story will make the townspeople respect you and the Mariner, but you won't gain anything special by choosing this dialogue option. After your conversation with the Far Harbor citizens, The Great Hunt will be complete.
Every Reward For Completing The Great Hunt
There are only a few rewards for The Great Hunt, but they're useful nonetheless. The first reward you'll gain is 300 Experience Points immediately after the quest ends. Your primary reward for the completion of The Great Hunt is the Legend Of The Harbor outfit. It has a base value of 2,000 Caps, so it's very valuable if you wish to sell it.
If you want to keep it, the Legend Of The Harbor is a unique Fisherman's Outfit that consists of boots and brown pants, along with a colorful shirt. Although the outfit itself isn't particularly special in appearance, it offers multiple effects tha✅t make completing The Great Hunt worth it for this outfit alone.
The first bonus it grants the wearer is two damage resistance and two energy resistance. Additionally, you'll gain two points of Perception and take 15 percent less damage from mirelurks, along with any other bug-like enemy, while wearing the Legend Of The Harbor outfit.
