These are more roleplay concepts that can still help you survive the horrors of survival mode. The early game will always be difficult, but with some patience and a bit of cleverness, you can find yourself wreaking havoc across the commonwe⭕alth.

16 Explosives Expert 💮

Just Pull The Pin And Throw

Of all the types of weapons out there, you may argue that those that do explosive damage give you the most bang for your... caps. With large amounts of damage per-shot and often with an area of effect radius, they're great for taking out large targets or groups of enemies.

From grenades to the Fat Man launcher, or even the humble landmine, there are a few weapons that can benefit an explosive build. The key is focusing on perception and endurance, which will allow you to see your t𒊎argets from far off, and hopefully survive for longer with the inevitability of you getting caught in your own blast.

This build does have a surprising amount of variability thanks to the different damage types of explosives, (pulse, cryo, plasma, etc.) w⛦hich makes it great for different enemy types.

Perk-wise, the aptly named Demolitions Expert is a must, as well as ones like Medic and Adamantium Skeleton to help keep your health up and moving fast. From there, it's as simple as picking your favorite explosives and exploring the waste.

This build loses points in the ranking system for the volatility it has for yourself and any companions you have with you, but the damage is s🌞uperb.

15 🌠 Brotherhood Of Steel Kn🧜ight

This path has you slowly creeping across the landscape and avoiding fights whenever possible. This means high agility for Sneak and probably Night Person to safely travel at night. Your goal is to gather useful items an꧂d as many caps as possible.

You'll also want perks like Lead Belly to eat anything and save money while you stockpile. Over time, you’ll have the funds and supplies to eventually fight your foes now and then. It’s a slow way to play, but you’d be surprised how much you can accomplish in this game without ever fighting.

13 ෴ Chem Fiend

A Walking Pharmacy

Some avoid them, while others swear by them; chems have been a constant in the Fallout universe for their effects. They can be a great help to you as well, assuming you're ready to deal with the repercussions.

Many of the chems in the game are great for combat, like Jet that slows down time or Psycho which helps you shrug off damage. With perks like Chemist and Acℱtion Boy/Girl🍸 you can make our chems last longer and boost the effects of your favorite ones.

Combining Psycho and Jet (extra damage and resistance) with tankier melee weapons and armor, or Mentats (highꦚlighting targets) with rifles and machine guns are both great ways to maximize the amount of damage you put out in a short amount of time.

Ma🌠ke sureౠ you bring some Addictol with you, or at least know how to make some.

12 Synth👍 Scientiꦓst

Father, And Son?

The Institute is one of the powerhouses of the Com🃏monwealth for a reason. This Fallout 4 survival build has you embodying the Institute in a way that does well in survival. High intelligence is essential for fast leveling and using either laser or radiation weapons is key. Radiation damage is tricky, but when done right, it can tear enemies apart, especially if your character has Nuclear Physicist.

You’re also in a position to take advantage of power armor, particularly the X0-1. Getting either X6-88 for stealthy approaches or 💃the Automatron for direct assault is also helpful. The name of the game is run and gun, so having high agility with Moving Target helps a lot🌜. The Solar Powered perk is also a given.

This is a weak build, but surprisingly fun and viable in﷽ survival. Luck is key, and you want every luck-based perk; Ricochet, Four Leaf Clover, Grim Reaper’s Sprint, Critical Banker, Better Criticals, Idiot Savant, Mysterious Stranger, Bloody Mess, Scrounger, and Fortune Finder.

The beginning is annoying, but if you live in VATS and stay patient you’ll find enemies dropping like flies in the latter part of the game. Go with a good semi-automatic and strong🍌 power armor as you’ll find plenty of fusion cores and ammo at level 30 with Scrounger.

10 🍬 ꦗ Sharpshooter

They Won't See You Coming

Sharpshooter is good for survival as the idea is to remain undetected and kill your enemies from afar with a modified Hunti🅘ng Rifle. Enough intelligence for Gun Nut and high agility for Sneak, Ninja, and Night Person to kill enemies with one headshot while sneaking. Quick Hands is also helpful if they don’t go down right away.

The only downside to this build is that any fight in close quarters is a problem. Offset this with a strong companion like Strong to act as a meat shield or get yourself a nice🥃 set of Power Armor and sneak as much as possible indoors.

9 Loner

It's A Lonesome Road

This build struggles a bit in the beginning, as most do in survival, but gets progressively stronger unt🙈il combat is no longer a problem in mid-game. You want really high intelligence to level up quickly, get Chemist to give yourself and meds, and Nerd Rage to make you stronger as your health goes down.

Settlements can be a tremendous help in survival as they give you an unlimited source of free supplies, a fallback point, beds, a place to stash things, and other perks. This build mixes parts of the Sharpshooter and the Synth Scientist archetypes, with some pretty pleasant results. This build doesn't rely on power armor, but can easily be boosted with such, instead it focuses on dealing damage through advanced weaponry.

A good amount of perception and agility will help a lot with a little bit in strength to help you carry your weapons. The goal is to get perks like Nuclear Physicist, Gun Fu, etc., and really dive into the energy/plasma weapons (and gauss at later levels) the game offers. They have great damage and usually ammo isn't so scarce that you'll find yourself with an empty weapon (especially at medium levels).

Gun Nut and Scientist really elevate this build. You'll be able to modify your weapons instead of trusting in luck to hand you an improved one while scavenging.
