It has elements of a horde mode, sorta like a Vermintide-type experience, while also featuring an element of PVP gameplay. The various Exosuits, which all have a very distinct feel and serve wholly unique purposes, even give the game a bit of that hero shooter flavor. But with all these unique com🤪ponents mashed together, there is the potential to feel overwhelmed. Worry not, friends, we've got all the tips you need to start things off with a 🦂bang!

Team Synergy Is The Key To Victory!

Exoprimal, Swapping Exosuits

Look, we get it: you want to be a cyber ninja. So do your friends. You all want to run around, slashing your sword, and pretending you are Grey Fox. Cool. But also, you are dooming your team. Classes exist for more than just variety. You will want to have a Tank Unit on your team when you are facing off against the opposition or when you are dealing with more serious threats. Tanking can be pretty important, y'all!

You will be able to do without a Witchdoctor for a number of missions, but at some point, you are going to need a healer to help keep everyone alive. Remember, you can switch Exosuits on the fly. So, if your team is lacking an important component, be flexible and swap out so that you can help enhance your team's chances. Being reactive to your situation, as opposed to trying to be a specialist, can absolutely win the day in Exoprimal. On that not𝐆e, a well-formed team will being the match playing an assault-type uওnit, and transition into a specialized role during later missions as they are needed.

It doesn't take long to switch Exosuits, and you are given notice before a dinosaur arrives. So, you do have time for reactive Exosuit swapping.

Don't Be Stingy With Your Abilities

Exoprimal, Using an ultimate attack

At the end of the day, if you are "saving" your ultimate, that just means that you aren't building towards a second one. There are certainly times when it makes sense to hold onto it. Maybe you are nearing the final mission, and you know you won't be able to get another in time for the big battle, then it may be worth saving that one, but for the most part, you are better off letting your abilities rip.

This is doubly true for your core abilities. They recharge quickly, and will always be ready for the next mission, so you don't need to be precious about them. Cycle through those abilities as often as possible. That is how yo𝓰u will maximize your 𓆉dino-killing potential!

Be A Supportive Team Member

Exoprimal, Healing with the Witch Doctor

When it comes to the best support unit, we feel like the Witch Doctor is a slam dunk. Not only does this Exosuit substantially boost your team's survivability with its potent healing abilities, but it also comes rocking some truly excellent mobility. Whenever you are in a pinch, you can jump away in the blink of an eye. Moreover, the Witch Doctor's primary weapon may do measly damage, but it can stun enemies, which can open up opportunities for more DPS focused units to really let loose.

While we wouldn't suggest that you use the Witch Doctor class for most Dino Cull missions, they are quite good at batting Pteranodons out of the air. Esp🔯ecially if you usജe the module to extend the range of the shock gun.

However, the big thing to remember about every support unit—but especially The Witch Doctor—is that this class-type is excellent for survivability, but it will stymie your DPS. So, early missions, when your allies aren't as likely to take serious damage, you will probably want to stick with an Assault unit. Unless, that is, you have a team that coordinates well and can use the Witch Doctors ability to shock enemies to their advantage effec🦄t༺ively. Which brings us to our next point...

First And Foremost Exoprimal Is A Race!

Exoprimal, Dead body in the foreground with an Exosuit in the background

A really well-balanced team is fantastic for survivability, but balance isn't necessarily the key to victory. Sure, you may kill a Carnotaurus without a member ever being downed, but if the other team manages to kill their Carnotaurus twenty seconds faster, it doesn't matter if they sustained losses in the process. Everything needs to be service of speed.

If you feel like we are sending mixed messages here, as we JUST mentioned how effective playing a support character can be, understand that everything goes back to adaptability. There are scenarios where it just isn't efficient to be using non-DPS type characters. That being said, if your team is constantly getting wiped then you need a support unit so that you aren't being slowed by constantly needing to revive members of the squad. That is the essential push-pull of the game.

Another component worth considering is being more efficient between missions. When you are running to the next objective, use any abilities you may have to get there quicker. Only one member needs to get to the mission's start point for the mission to begin, and there is no time to dawdle in between encounters. Zephyr's Turbine Step is particularly good at zipping to th😼e next mission. It may not seem like much, but seconds matter!

Prep All Your Exosuits

Exoprimal, Kitting out the Witch Doctor Exosuit

Modules may appear to provide a pretty minimal benefit at first, but once they are fully leveled, and have started stacking complementary modules, they do make quite the difference. But, since Exoprimal is a game where you are going to want to be flexible, it is important that you equip every Exosuit that your team may need. At the very le🐠ast, make poಞsitive that you have a fully kitted-out Assault Unit, Support Unit, and Tank Unit.

This is also ꦆa good reason for using a number of different Exosuits consistently, 𒊎as each has useful specialized modules that won't be accessible until you hit a certain level with that suit.

We would also strongly recommend choosing different Rigs for each Exosuit. The Cannon is a wonderful starter rig and feels very relevant throughout. However, the Shield can greatly improve a unit's durability, and help provide some much-needed protection for ranged units. While the Aid rig compliments most Assault units, while also taking pressure off anyone playing a support character in your squad. You will want to be able to swap out Exosuits on the fly, so make sure that every Exo♛suit is 𝔍fitted with the best possible gear.

Get Acquainted With The Comm Wheel

Exoprimal, Comm Wheel

Look, no one is telling you that you need to talk to your teammates using your mic. We all know how deeply unpleasant that can be. Especially if you don't have a group to play with who you actually want to talk to. However, communication is going to be pretty important. Thankfully, the 💞Comm Wheel will help bridge that gap.

Generally, you aren't going to be able to give nuanced commands using the basic symbols provided, but you can absolutely request a heal, which is a great way to get a support unit's attention. The "gather up" icon for calling people to a spot is also extremely useful for getting people back to important areas. If there is one thing players are bad at, it is being ab꧋le to p🧔ull back from killing dinosaurs and staying in the necessary areas for gathering energy and moving the data key along, this Comm Wheel command can be a useful way to get their attention.

Keep Your Eye On The Minimap

Exoprimal, Close up of the minimap

This is, by far, the easiest way to immediately level up your game. During the Dino Cull missions, dinosaurs will be spawning all over the place. Looking for the portals, and going to where the dinosaurs already are, is not necessarily the best approach. It is a huge advantage to be aimed at a portal long 🥀before the dinosaurs start immerging from it.

That is where the minimap comes in, it tells you where the dinosaurs are, it tells you where they are spawning from, and it does it without hesitation. Being keenly aware of the minimap will help you to stay on top of every wave of dinosaurs.

Use Your Opponents' Ghosts To Your Advantage

Exoprimal, Seeing the other team's ghosts

As we have already said, Exoprimal is a race. One of the interesting elements is that you will, on occasion, catch a glimpse of your opponents. This will always occur after completing a mission. However, this isn't a neglig🥀ible element, if you are smart, you can use this information to your adva🍎ntage.

One of the most useful aspects is that these ghosts will show you where the next objective is if you are behind. Even if the Watcher has yet to advance, heading to the other team's position will help you shave off a second or so and get the next mission initializing quicker.

Beyond that, it will give you a glimpse at their team's composition. So, if you are nearing the final conflict, you can potentially try to counterpick their Exosuits.

There's No I In Team

Exoprimal, Three exosuits posing together

While we all love your dino-destroying enthusiasm, if you aren't helping to complete the objectives then you are a liability. If there is an area where you are supposed to be, and you are elsewhere shooting raptors, YOU AREN'T HELPING. Sure, it may help boost your score at the end of the match, but all the other lower-sc🍒oring team members, the ones who actually tried to win the match, will hate you for you sabotaging them.

We can't emphasize this enough... the Data Cube moves faster the more people who are in the target area. The marker charges quicker when more people are in the target area defending it. If there is a target area, you should be inside of it, not farming raptors half a mile away.

Being Vigilante When Fighting Other Players

Exoprimal, Vigilante Exosuit

On the note of class types... The Vigilante Exosuit isn't great for dealing with hordes of dinos, but you will find that when you need to square off against other players, this suit is easily the most potent. The Vigilante moveset gives you access to a sniper rifle, and alongside it, you get the ability to eliminate rivals pretty quickly.

While we would typically recommend not strไaying too far from your party during the PvP missions, Vigilante can poke around a little more, and harass the other 🐓team from the distance.

Vigilante is also well-equipped for dealing with the larger threats, like the Carnotaurus. However, since they do feel so specialized, we would recommend holding off on using them in the early missions—where you are mostly fighting hordes of dinosaurs—and saving them for the late-game encounters against rival players and big dinos. Unfortunately, you will need to be player level 40 before you will be able to unlock the Vigilante Exosuit. However, if you purchased to Deluxe Edition of the game, you will have access to this suit from the jump. We would recommend that you make use of it.

Healers And Tanks Can Be Gentle Leaders

Exoprimal, Looking at a protective dome

So, maybe you don't want to spam the "gather here" emote over and over again as a rogue Zephyr waggles their sword half a mile away from where they need to be. Well, there is another way to incentivize them to play the game a little more effectively: place down a healing circle or a protective dome where you want them to be.

Look, some of the people who are going off on their own, completely ruining the team's chance to win, are more self-motivated. However, they will be drawn to those glowy domes that heal or protect them. So, even if you are paired with a few selfish players, those domes are hard to miss, and they provide a direct benefit to them (because apparently winning the match isn't enough of one). Use them to draw your team to where they are supposed to be and you will likely have mor🍎e success keeping the whole squad on target.
