The annual Games For Change Awards are a celebration of the games that aspire to elevate the medium, pushing gaming forward with innovative new ideas, fresh artisti💮c directions, and positive social messaging. Now in its 22nd year, The G4C🅰 Awards return to the Parsons School of Design at The New School on June 26-27 in New York City.

Today, TheGamer is proud t𒈔o announce the three finalists in the Best Board or Tabletop Game for Impact cat🌼egory. Each of these games is notable for offering a thoughtful exploration of an aspect of the human condition, allowing players to experience the joys, struggles, and humanity of lives beyond their own. Legless In London

Inspired by the 2022 book Prosthetic Body Parts in Nineteenth-Century Literature and Cul💫ture by Ryan Sweet, who also had a hand in designing the game, Legless in London is a slice-of-life adventure about finding a job, falling in love, and chasing your goals while using artificial legs.

Focus Games says Legless in London “was created to challenge perceptions around disability, accessibility, and independence through a lens of humour, history and humanity. At its core, Legless in London is about agency, identity, and navigating the world on your own terms.” The lives of 19t𒀰h-century amputees isn’t a group we often think about, nor is it a typical theme for a board game, but that obscurity is the source of the empathy and awareness Legless in London inspires.

“Person”

“Person💞” is a game that challenges our preconceived notions about gender identity by helping players imagine them🐓selves in someone else’s shoes. Developed by UNFPA Georgia in partnership with BG Era Games, “Person” is about stepping back to understand the biases that shape our perception of others. This simple card game inspires deep reflection and meaningful conversation about social equality.

Protection: The Board Game

In a war-torn country called Generica, rebels clash with the standing military regime, putting the entire population in the crossfire. You play as 🧸the head of a humanitarian NGO, tasked with en♏suring the safety of all Generican citizens from violence. Developed by Gold Bug Interactive, Protection: The Board Game is a training device designed for field-level senior leadership within humanitarian organizations to help them develop problem-solving skills and practice decision-making that will one day be used to save lives.
