168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a fascinating gameplay loop that I haven't seen in any other games… except in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Though Rebirth’s open world interludes distinguish it from Remake, it's extremely similar to its predecessor when it narrows its focus for the linear stretches. You explore an area, fighting groups of enemies as you go. You might need to solve puzzles too — in my most recent session, Yuffie grappled through a series of swings as she attempted to restore power to the area's elevators. Eventually, you reach a bench where you can rest next to a pair of vending machines where you can restock or level up. This is your clue that a boss fight is about to begin. You finish the fight, rinse, and repeat.

A Boss Around Every Corner

In Rebirth, bosses are commonplace. You fight them almost as often as regular enemies. I tend to play the game in one-hour stretches before I start my work fo𝓰r the day, and like clockwork, those sessions tend to end shortly after my party has worked together to fell a massive monster.

Rebirth is spectacle-driven, but unlike its Sony stablemate 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Uncharted, the spectacle comes less often from set-piece action sequences, and more often from flashy kaiju fights. Wildlife is a common sighting in Rebirth's open world as you ride full-grown chocobos and follow baby chocobos to bus stops. But the game's world is also full of dangerous fauna, the kind that's big enough to destroy a village if it wakes up on the wrong side of the bed.

On Today's Episode

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a little like a TV show in that way. Or, maybe more accurately, a Marvel movie. Each hour I spend with the game is fairly self-contained. I make progress, watch Cloud's relationships with his party members grow and change, and typically fight a big boss battle. It's one episode of a larger whole, but closing on those battles makes it feel like you've accomplished something more significant with your time. It's similar to the way MCU movies each tell one small piece of the overarching story but, ideally, are also a complete story in their own right.

I've been making slow progress in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. In most games, that would make it harder and harder to return to but in Rebirth, even if I'm logging in and only playing for an hour, I come away feeling like I completed something tangible and exciting.

The boss fights are the biggest part of that, and I suspect when I next reach an open-world segment, I won't feel this progress quite as powerfully. I enjoy running around the world, challenging those foolish enough to propose a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Queen's Blood bout, but I have to create my own markers for progress in those sessions. When the game is in linear mode, it's already perfectly segmented for players like me; the kind who really like the game, but have a bit of a wandering eye. With each play session, it reminds you who's the boss.
