If the monsters, demons, and mad gods of the lands in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elder Scrolls series don’t get you, then the Dark Brotherhood probably will. This band oᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚf ruthless assassins is a shꦏadowy organization that operates out of numerous guild houses throughout Tamriel.
These ava♚tars of chaos could at one 🍒point make entire kingdoms collapse with a knife twist and there’s never far enough to run to escape their blades should your name appear on their list. An ominous black hand marks their deeds, and their touch is felt everywhere within Tamriel. But who are the Dark Brotherhood?
Who Are The Dark Brotherhood?
Sporting a name only muttered in hushed conversations, the Dark Brotherhood is an interesting and oddly tragic faction in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Elder Scrolls series. They’re an elite group of assassins, one of four majo🐎r Guilds, and have been active all acro𒉰ss Tamriel since the early Elder Scrolls games.
This group of killers, as ruthless as they may be, do have a strict code, and those that breach it are quickly dealt with. Due to this, the𓂃ir activities are tolerated, albeit begrudgingly, by the world as a whole. A necessary evil in a land that’s otherwise chaotic at the best of times. Though their i🍎nfluence is not as strong as it once was.
The History Of The Dark Brotherhood
The history of th𒉰e Dark Brotherhood is a long and chaotic one, full of backstabbing, betrayal, and plenty of murder. Their grand downfall from monsters in the dark to a threadbare force, fearful of trusting each other and barely held together in a hideout that could crumble around them at any moment is sadly poetic.
The Brotherhood has been around since the First Era, and was originally known as the Morag Tong, a Guild of assassins based in Morrowind that performed their deeds as a celebration of the Daedric Prince of Murder, Mephala. Back then everyone from commoners to Kings felt the blade of this cult between their shoulder blades. But after the murder of the Akaviri Emperors' chief Advisor, with Morag Tong scrawled across the palace walls in their target's blood, the amount of attention the group received proved to be too much.
A Splintering Of Assassins
Pressure from the public and other authorities sent the group into hiding for nearly a Century. During this time infighting would lead to the Morag Tong fracturing, with the Dark Brotherhood splintering off on their own, forming a more business-like and economically minded operation than their other br💙ethren. The Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood would then operate separately, with tꦬhe groups often murdering each other en masse in retaliation, to remove traitors or as a power grab during their long-running civil war.
Though the accuracy of these eventsꦺ is hotly debated, and there’s some conjecture around the specifics, by the fall of the Second Empire, the Dark Brotherhood had risen to power and prospered with their killing techniques. Once again none were safe and many nobles and Governors were often the first to go, the most notable🌳 of which was Tiber Septims heir, Pelagius I.
Third Era Dark Brotherhood
Unfortunately, by the year 325 of the Third Era, the group was utterly🌸 decimated by an internal power struggle. The source of which was reported to be the long-sought-after Daedric artifact, Mehrunes Razor. Though the Broꦚtherhood would soldier on, their numbers would continue to dwindle over the years due to attacks from outsiders such as the Crimson Scars, and their old rivals the Morag Tong.
By the year 433, the time in which 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is set, an unfortunate betrayal 🅷in their headquarters would occur. A trusted Speaker convinced a new member to assassinate the majority of the Brotherhood as traitors, though this would turn out to be a deception. The real traitor, Mathieu Bellamont, would be reve📖aled and killed, but not before the Dark Brotherhood had lost more than half of its members.
The Razing Of The Guild
After the Great War, their already strained resources were put to the torch. Numerous hideouts across Tamriel were lost or evacuated and the Brotherhood's numbers were once again culled significantly, either from the War or infighting. With no new recruits, some of their teachings and smaller groups began to die out.
Their fate was sealed with the destruction of their final hideout in Cyrodil and the razing of the Night Mothers crypt by th💎e Forgotten Hero (the protagonist of Elder Scrolls: Legends) and a group of mercena𝓀ries. With their Listeners dead, their Night Mother now silent, and their group completely demoralized, those that survived fled or died from further betrayals started by people seeking revenge.
Fourth Era Dark Brotherhood
The only known survivor by the Fourth Era is said to be Cicero, who fled to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Falkreath Sanctuary in Skyrim by th💯e year 200. Th🀅ere he dwelled with the Night Mother, recruiting what killers he could in an effort to rebuild.
From there the events of Skyrim play out with the brotherhood once again t🔯hriving or being completely decimated by an outside infiltrator. A sad cyclical end to a once-grand Guild.
The Beliefs of The Dark Brotherhood
Though originally the Morag Tong believed in worshipping Mephala, the splinter group that would go on to become the Dark Brotherhood turned their praise to a different deity. They focus on Sithis, the representation of the Void. There&rsquo💖;s also the Night Mother, their dark matron that provides them with their contracts for those that are chosen to die.
Aside from their unholy patrons, what keeps this group of killers in order is a doctrine that’s respected and followed to a cult-like degree, known as the Five Tenets. This set of rules ensures a relative degree of order and control is exerted over the Brotherhood. After all, with so many dangerous people in one place at the o𒐪ne time, you wouldn’t want them to start getting any ideas about reorganizing upper managemen⛎t.
The Five Tenets
The Five Tenets of the Dark Brotherhood are:-
- Members must never dishonor the Night Mother.
- Members must never betray the Dark Brotherhood.
- Members must never disobey or refuse to carry out the orders of a superior.
- Members must never steal the possessions of another Dark Brother or Sister.
- Members must never kill a fellow Dark Brother or Sister.
These rules are🔜 strictly followed and any breaches are dealt with immediately by other members ruthlessly and of course, lethally. It’s pretty brutal, but it keeps these contract killers from tearing each other apart and it puts theirꦆ skills to greater use for the betterment of the Dark Brotherhood.
Joining The Dark Brotherhood
One of the oddest things about the Dark Brotherhood is that they’ll accept pretty much anyone within their ranks. In most of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elder Scrolls games they have a fairly liberal open-door policy going on. With notable members ranging from Bandits to Vampire children and Werewolves. There’s even a whole contingent of Argonian assassins call꧃ed the Shadowscale.
Though it makes the group highly susceptible to infiltration (as history has proven) as long as you have a degree of skill for murder, show no remorse, and are willing to follow orders without question, they’ll happily let you join. As evidenced by how they let 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Dragonborn in, someone that's not exactly subtle.
The Black Sacrament
For those that require the removal of someone from the mortal plane, it’s surprisingly easy to get in touch with the Dark Brotherhood if you know how. To gain the services of these murderers for hire a client simply has to perform what’s known as the🌠 Black Sacrament.
This is a dark ritual in whi꧃ch the invoker must create a rudimentary effigy of the one they want killed🧔 using real body parts. This is then encircled with candles and the body of the target is stabbed with a dagger that’s been rubbed with Nightshade whilst the invoker whispers the following plea to the Night Mother:
“Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear.”
If heard, these requests are passed on to the Brotherhood's Listener by the Night Mother, who then creates contracts for the resident Assassins to carry out. It’s an effective system that ensures the Listeners are kept in a relatively safe position of power within the organization and aims the Assassins with a purpose.
