Open-world games are nothing new to gaming, nor are mounts that make traversing those worlds more manageable. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elden Ring manages to make both feel fresh, offering a world that ꩲoffers a different kind of freedom in its exploration, and Torrent being a mount that embodies that fr𓃲eedom while also adding a new layer to combat.
But what exactly is Torrent? No 🌟other mount in the game exists quite liꦛke them, and though they never speak, they seem to have a mind of their own. Like most things in Elden Ring, Torrent is shrouded in mystery that requires a little digging to understand. Even then, Torrent remains somewhat elusive.
Mounts As They Exist In The Lands Between
When you begin Elden Ring, you are free to explore the world, though only with your own two feet. Torrent is only given to you after resting as a specif🗹ic Site of Grace and speaking with Melina, who hands you the to summon them. Torrent, beautiful and dutiful as they are, appear dramatically different from other mounts in the world.
Across The Lands Between, you'll encounter plenty of mounted enemies, from the Nox warrior women atop their giant ants to the mercenaries riding the plains on their war horses. These mounts are still rare, yet none match Torrent in appearance. Ants appear mainly underground, accompanied by Nox women or by themselves. In the wild, horses are mounted by mercenaries or Night's Cavalry but still look like regular horses, albeit robed.
Meanwhile, Torrent's hair is long and wild, and most notably they have curled horns situated at the very top of their head, a feature few others in the world of Elden Ring share, aside from the Fell Omen or the Ancestral Followers. This is the only aspect that would tie Torrent to either party, yet there is no other evidence in the game of a creature like Torrent existing in The Lands Between.
How Ranni, Miquella, and Melina Connect To Torrent
All the characters of Elden Ring as rather enigmatic, though Ranni, Miquella, and Melina rank themselves as some of the most mysterious. Melina is a constant companion, playing the role of Maiden to your Tarnished, yet is never acknowledged by other characters and is given no strict relation to them either. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ranni exists on the opposite end, tied very directly into the events of the game, but keeps details of herself close to her chest. Miquella, meanwhile, is seen only briefly🧔 when taken by Mohg, with no chance to speak fo♑r himself.
Yet the one thing tying them all together is Torrent. Melina bequeaths to you the Spectral Steed Whistle with which to summon Torrent, yet makes no other such mention of Torrent's origins, only that he has chosen you. Meanwhile, Ranni, under the name Renna, first appears to you only after knowing Torrent is in your service claiming to know his previous master and offers you a gift from that self-same master, never p♐roclaiming🧸 their name.
So 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:where does Miquella fit into this? Though the Shadow of the Erdtree art shows a character that seems to match Miquella's description riding Torrent, the game itself has one additional connection between the pair. Empyreans are known to have a shadow, a bestial creature that protects them. Marika has one in the form of Maliketh, locked away in Farum Azula, while Ranni is protected by . Though we never see Miquella or Malenia's shadows, in Farum Azula there is a statue depicting a young person surrounded by a pair of three wolves. Ranni bestows the Lone Wolf Ashes, which summons three wolves, to the player upon learning they have Torrent. Though it is by no means a confirmation that Torrent belonged to Miquella, or indeed why Ranni and Miquella would have been in contact, it's too strong a connection to simply ignore.
Notable as well is how we are never told how Torrent passed to , whether by choice or by chance. Yet Melina and Ranni, the only two characters who directly reference Torrent, share striking similarities in appearance. It's nothing conclusive, but a possible reason the two are connected through Torrent.🐻
Torrent Choosing The Tarnished
From the moment you are given Torrent by Melina, he is a constant companion. No matter what choice you make, whether they or you should fall in combat, Torrent is eternally in your service. Indeed, this is not by contract but by choice. When Melina grants to you the Spectral Steed Whistle, it is not of her own accord. She claims that Torrent chose you, and you specifically from a sea of others. In fact, she goes so far as to say Torrent has always known you to be fitꦜting, while Melina still had her doubts.
It would seem Torrent would follow the Tarnished even into death, viewing their choice as being the best. We never hear of Torrent's thoughts, nor the beliefs of their previous master, so we have no way of knowing what it is they seek themself. Even were Miquella assumed to be their previous master, they sought to remove the influence of Outer Gods, yet Torrent is clearly willing to follow you in supporting them. As such, it implies Torrent truly has goals of their own or is simply deeply confident in yours.
Theories As To Torrent's Origins
With all of the previous information in mind, it still offers nothing concrete as to the origins of Torrent. It is possible to believe they were previously connected with Marika through her children and were brought to The Lands Between when she was chosen as Empyrean to The Greater Will. Marika herself is a Numen from a region beyond The Lands Between, so it would fit that Torrent could have been brought with her. Yet at the same time, the Noxꦉ women are🤪 rumoured within the game to also be Numen, yet they never ride mounts like Torrent, just giant ants.
One could also connect Torrent to the Fell Omen due to their horns. The Fell Omen are hated by the rule of the Erdtree, seen as a blasphemous figure of a time before them. As such, they are either locked beneath Leyndell or have their horns sheared off to hide their existence. That would possibly explain by we see no other f🌸igures like Torrent, yet it is still unusual how no other evidence exists of a horned figure like Torrent,🍃 while plentiful information exists to depict the Fell Omen and how they were hunted.
The only things that can be concretely discerned about Torrent are that they have a will of their own and chose you, and that they had a previous owner. Anything else is like building a puzzle with missing pieces. That said, that Miquella was their previous owner seems the most plausible, and Miquella and Ranni having some connection through their shared disdain for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Greater Will may offer some reason as to why Ranni would have knowledge of Torrent. With the 🅘Shadow of the Erdtree expansion seemingly set to delve more into both Torrent and Miquella, we can only hope even more firm information will be available on them.
