One of the most prominent characters in Elden Ring is the Deathbed Companion, a Tarnished mentioned in the game’s opening cutscene and whose story can alter the future o𒁏f the💎 Lands Between. While Fia’s quest is an exciting one, it can often be confusing to follow, so here is everything you need to know in order to complete it.
Meeting Fia At The Roundtable Hold
Fia the Deathbed Companion can first be found in the Roundtable Hold, Elden Ring’s hub area. This legendary Tarnished can be located in the right-hand side of the Hold, sitting upon a bed in the room next to the blacksmith.
When you first speak with Fia, she'll offer to hold you. A rather odd request for a Souslike game, but to progress her story you'll need to accept this offer.
When you accept, you'll receive a Baldachin's Blessing. This item is a double-edged sword, as it will boost your poise, but temporarily lower your maximum HP by approximately 5%. This debuff will last until the item leaves your inventory.
You can return to Fia for as many hugs a🔯nd Baldachin's Blessings as your Tarnished heart desires.
To progress Fia's questline you must return to her a number of times, until a dialogue option appears in which she asks you for a favor. It is currently unknown what exactly triggers this step, although it usually appears after you have reached the Atlus Plateau.
D And The Weathered Dagger
Once you have spoken to Fia enough, she will ask you to return a Weathered Dagger to its rightful owner. At first, it will be unclear to whom exactly you should give this item, but the correct NPC isn'🌠t too far away.
Give the Weathered Dagger to D. He can usually be found sitting next to the Roundtable itself, wearing a unique gold-and-silver set of armor. If he's not there, you will likely find him in Summonwater Village.
Once you have the Weathered Dagger, give it to D to progress Fia’s questline. An important thing to note here is that giving D the dagger will lead to his untimely demise, so if you have any unfinished business with him, complete that first.
Once D has the dagger, reload the area to find both him and♒ Fia missing from their usual spots. The two characters will instead be in a previously 🌳closed room, at the end of the hallway to the right of the Roundtable.
Fia will be leaning over D’s corpse. She will fill you in on some important lore, and then vanish before your eyes. You can now loot D’s corpse, taking his armor as your own.
Finding The Cursemark Of Death
After that unpleasant ordeal with D, you'll need to find the Cursemark of Death. This requires you to progress Ranni the Witch’s questline until you gain access to the Carian Study Hall.

Once inside the Carian Study Hall, travel to the top of the tower until you reach its peak. Here you will find the Cursemark of Death. This item is༺ not required right now, but will be pivotal later.
Find D’s Brother In The Siofra Aqueduct
The next step in Fia’s questline is to locate her in one of the deepest recesses of Elden Ring’s map. However, before speaking with the deathbed com🐻panion again, you will be faced with a choice.
Just before the Twin Gargoyle boss fight, a bat🐬tle you can complete to acc🦹ess Fia’s next location, you can find D’s brother. Here you can choose to give him D’s armor set.
Choosing to do so will make it so D’s brother kills Fia later in the game. This choice does not lock off Fia’s ending, but does mean she will die.
Take On Fia’s Champion In The Deeproot Depths
Having made your choice, it's now time to find Fia once again. She can be located in the Deeproot Depths, in the spot pictured above. This area can be accessed in two ways, either by defeating the Twin Gargoyles and entering the coffin at the back of the boss room, or by traveling to the lowest point of the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds and accessing the area through an illusory wall behind the boss room.
Before you can speak with her, however, you must defeat her champions. This boss comes in the form of a multitude of randomized NPC summons, each with unique abilities. Don't be afraid to use your own summons here to even 🧜the odds.
Make sure to activate the Site of Grace in the branches ahead of this area, should you fail in ꦗyour attempts to defeat the champions.
Having felled Fia’s champions, approach her and speak once again. Agree to be held once more. When asked, give her the Cursemark of Death you found in the Carian Study Hall.
Enter The Deathbed Dream
The final step in Fia’s questline is to enter an area known as the Deathbed Dream. Approach Fia, having exhausted her dialogue options, and choose to enter the Deathbed Dream.
If this option is not available just reload the area, and it should appear. Once in the Deathbed Dream, you'll have to battle Lichdragon Fortissax. This is a challenging boss fight🌳 meant for late-game players, so come prepared.
As with many oversized bosses in Soulslike games, a good rule of thumb here is to stay under the dragon, hitting its legs and stomach until you stagger it.
Moreover, Fortissax has dangerous red lighting attacks that can easily lock onto you. However, they are tel🉐egraphed, and can be rolled away from.

Once the dragon has been defeated, you will be transported out of the dream. Approach Fia as she sleeps and loot
the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. This item is central to unlocking her ending, and can be used in the closing moments of Elden Ring’s story.
With that, Fia’s part in Elden Ring’s story will 🎀come to a close. Perhaps she will fall to D’s brother, or maybe you will aid her in claiming the Elden throne.
