Ultimate Team promos occur every week, releasing brand new cards to chase in packs. It keeps the difficulty curve moving over the course of a season, and preys on FOMO in order to sell packs. In previous years, if I&rsquo🌃;ve ꦦseen a Liverpool player in a promo, I’ve chased them. Thankfully I’ve got ahold of myself now, but the excitement of chasing great players is a part of why people play Ultimate Team. You’re creating the Ultimate Team, so you need the Ultimate Players.
The most recent promo was Fantasy FC, which saw players like Luis Díazღ, Ibrahima Konaté, and some non-Liverpool players given boosted cards. However, the difference with this promo is that the cards will upgrade further based on players’ IRL performances. Winning matches, appearing in the first 11, and scoring goals all contribute to further buffing these players. While I’d love a +4 Díaz as much as the next Ultimate Team player, I’m already watching Liverpool matches. Most football fans will catch the results on their phones or Match of the Day. We’re a big 📖side in a tight title race, it’s hard to miss how our matches go.

The same can’t be said for women𓆉’s teams. While I follow the Women’s Super League, England’s premier women’s football competiti♋on, I’d be hard pressed to recall any results other than Liverpool’s this past weekend (we won 4-1, by the way). But with card upgrades on the line, Ultimate Team players are tuning in to women’s matches and actually enjoying themselves.
Lots of play🌳ers are glued to FC Barcelona Femení’s matches to see whether Fridolina Rolf♕ö will get her upgrades. Unfortunately, she’s not making the first team at the moment, so seems unlikely to get all her upgrades. However, despite fighting for her place with Ona Batlle, she’s leading a new legion of Barcelona F fans to root for the club.
Players are creating match threads in online Ultimate Team spaces, finally taking notice of the likes of Putellas and seeing what Hansen can do IRL as well as on the virtual pit♏ch. Hansen’s part in Barcelona’s seven-goal drubbing of Real Sociedad Women will help out Rolfö’s card, and it will help endear a group of gamers to her team.
This phenomenon extends further than Spain.
