Ah, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dynasty Warriors, you fickle master of fun. Ever a game to give with one hand and take away with the other. Some of the best levels in the series? Have some god awful voice acting. The biggest roster known to man? How about some horrible nickel-and-dime D🌃LC to go with it. An open world, finally? Make it one devoid of detail. For so many years, I’ve played Dynasty Warriors games that would be oh-so-perfect if not for some petty flaw💦.

This unfortunate aspect of Origins gives me more pause than any other ‘flaw’ I’ve listed previously. Goofy voice-acting choices can be a source of joy in itself, DLC is easily ignored, and bland open worlds can be… well, not ignored, but DW9 was fine. Origins, however, seems to be taking one hell of a step back. With only nine playable characters at launch (face it, they’ll add more for some ridiculous cost in the future), this game will have the slimmest roster in the entire series, including the very first, which was a fighting game that bears little, if any, resemblanc✨e to the modern incarnations.

In my mind, Dynasty Warriors is a sandbox. Sure, the games tell the story of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms through the eyes of the most prominent characters and families, but first and foremost, it’s an excuse to turn your brain off, slice and di🥀ce through thousands of mooks using overpowered, mystical beings, and enjoy the time-old video game tradition of ‘number go up’. This style of gameplay looks to💖 be present with Origins, but the accoutrements that make it work so well are missing.

From 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:previews and interviews with the devs, it sounds like Origins is not only a reboot in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the series’ numbering system, but in its approach to the gameplay cycle. The new game will see us accompanying an entirely fictional character of our own naming, which inherently reduces the scope of what we can expect to see. We know that we won’t be seeing as much of the Three Kingdoms period of histꦐory as in ꦗprevious games and that many characters that we’ve grown to know and love (and hate, sometimes vehemently so) won’t be appearing at all.

That said, all may be forgiven if we get to play as Xu Shu. 👍Oh, Xu 🌼Shu, you perfect boy.

In any other series, I wouldn’t be so alarmed by such news. I might even relish certain names taking a more focused approach to storytelling or slimming down a cast of characters to properly spotlight the principal players. But for Dynasty Warriors, these developments feel antithetical to the choices that made the series such a beloved staple for so many. The thing I enjoy the most about these games is being able to pick any random character and enjoying an entirely new playstyle to whoever I chose previously, with a new character always on the horizon. Variety is not just the spice of life, it’s the point of Dynasty Warriors.

This is why I’m sceptical of Origins, for now. It looks gorgeous, and from what I’ve read, the battle system sounds heightened and refined in exciting ways. Obviously, I’m not put off the game entirely, but with so many favourites inevitably being excluded from this landmark reboot and many iconic battles relegated to some inevitable sequel (which may or may not be in the hypothetical aether right now), it’s simply an impossibility for Origins to b♛e a wholly positive experience.
