Lightning And Snakes All Wrapped Into One

While the Staff of Ruling is pretty cool, it's definitely one of the least powerful items added with Quests From The Infinite Staircase, though it is still one of the most useful. This Rare staff has a gorgeous and unique look, that of a snake wrapping around the staff, but its skin is in the style of a flowing river coursing down the length of it. This snake covers a red and gold staff. The clashing design does nothing for the staff, but the snake and its flowing river skin definitely stand out, and that'll be gorgeous to describe when roleplaying.

This staff has three distinct actions it can do, each different from the last. The first is Otb of Lightning. As expected, you can drop an orb of lightning in an area that will eventually explode in the area based on either your losing concentration or an enemy stepping into the area. Interestingly the damage of this explosion stacks the longer the orb lasts. You can eventually deal up to 10d6 lightning damage as the orb explodes, a significant amount if the orb is used properly. It might require a bit of strategy, but it's worth the work for how much you can get out of it.

Alternatively, you can throw the staff in front of you and allow it to turn into𒈔 a giant poisonous snake. What you do with this snake form is up to you, and ♏it lasts until it reaches zero hitpoints, or you use a bonus action to speak its command word and return it to its staff form.

Finally, Thunderclap is your average thunderclap ability. You can use it to leave the targeted creature deafened and frightened as at a failed Constitution saving throw. Similar to the spell itself, you can cast this one for free through the staff i🔯tself. Altogether, there are some great options for a player who can get their hand on th⭕is Rare staff, though there are still even better options available in Quests From The Infinite Staircase.

2 Daoud's Wondrous Lanthorn

Release Your Hold On Greed And Worldly Possessions

This magical item is probably the most interesting in Quests From The Infinite Staircase. A beautiful lantern emitting bright light and inlaid with gemstones, Daoud's Wondrous Lanthorn may be the most expensiv♋e magical item your players will hold. The latern only burns using powdered gemstones. You'll need a lot of precious gemstones ground down into fuel to keep it going, and you can kiss the gold that'll cost you goodbye. Importantly, the lantern's fuel cannot be extinguished by any other means than running out of fuel. Player beware, though; once the flame is extinguished, whoever is attuned to it will die along with the flames.

Not only does this lantern shed bright light, it can reveal invisible creatures and objects within its light. The lantern can also be used to cast spells using the🍸 gem lenses attached. These spells are powerful and include options such as Reverse Gravity, Disintegrate, Haste, and Prismatic Wall.

The only way to destroy the lantern is to forsake all your material possessions, and watching a player who is a bit greedy having to contend with that and the cost of keeping the lantern lit can be a rousing good time for everyone at t🌱he table. Casting powerful spells without wasting spell slots, along with seeing invisible creatures and items and the minor and majoꩵr beneficial properties the DM will give to it.

1 Heretic

A Blasphemous Longsword With Stolen Power

A weapon like this one doesn't come often, and part of what makes it so special is the story behind it. This weapon cannot be attuned to a creature that has a good nature due to its own specifications. It was created to steal power from gods that have a good alignment, and the cult that created it has left several abilities on it to ensure that this purpose comes to pass.

You get a bonus to both attack and damage rolls when using Heretic, and it has charges for several abilities you can use when wielding itꦜ.

• Destroy Devotion - This allows you to paralyze an opponent at the end of a Constitution saving throw if they fail. Due to the nature of the weapon, Celestials have disadvantage against this saving throw.
• Faith Hunter - This ability allows you to freely cast one of three spells: Fly, True Seeing, and Detect Evil and Good. Each costs a specific amount of charges. They all work perfectly for the theme of the weapon and make for great roleplay opportunities when being used.

It turns out that Heretic is a sentient weapon and is a Chaotic Evil. Quests From The Infinite Staircase provides its stats, but it can hear and understand languages you know and speak to you telepathically, among other things. There are notes for roleplaying the longsword, but just know that it's a snobby, condescending item that loves a snarky comment and has a penchant for finding good-aligned creatures and gods around and letting the bearer know of their existence. This weapon is just as good, if not better, than any of the monsters included in Quests Fro🐼m the Infinite Staircase.
