Why Does Jessica Reveal The Voice To Thufir?

In the first part of Dune, Duke Atreides' spymaster Thufir Hawat suspects Lady Jessica of being a Harkonnen spy. When he confronts her, Jessica uses the Voice to make Thufir sit down and listen to her. Not only does this prevent the spymaster from attacking her, but it also reveals to him that the rumors about the Voice's existence are true.
