Morrigan is a fan favourite 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age character for numerous reasons. She’s a cool, badass sorceress who’s been with you since day one; she’s a smoking hot potential love interest for your Warden; and she’s one of few returning characters tipped to play a part in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

I like Morrigan a lot. What can I say, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I’m a Dragon Age fan, it comes with the territory. She was in my canon party for Dr🐈agon Age: Origins and, although I didn’t romance her, the momentous story beats she was a part of – from Flemeth’s curse to deciding how to defeat🍒 the Archdemon – have stuck with me.

Despite this, I wasn’t sure about her purported return in Inquisition. I 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:only recently finished the game, but sometimes the constant references to past decisions have seemed a little trite or forced. A lot of them work brilliantly, don’t get m🌸e wrong, but I hoped that she would be more than just a familiar face to get fans 🙈on board. Thankfully, she was so much more.

Mommy Morrigan

Many Dragon Age fans will♔ tell you that Morrigan has always been mommy, but in my playthrough (and most others, I would wager) she is literally mother. No, not like that. In order to defeat the Archdemon in Dragon Age: Ori🌠gins, either your Warden or Alistair must sleep with her. The soul of the old god is imparted into the foetus and Morrigan leaves.

It’s a surprisingly difficult decision whether or not to sleep with the sexy goth gf, and that’s a testament to BioWare’s writing. Alistair is especially reluctant, and I felt awful about forcing him to do the deed and then crowning him king – something he also didn’t seem🐷 too keen on.

I thought Morrigan was gone forever until I heard 🉐rumours of her return in Inquisition. She made a hell of an entrance in her finery at the masquerade ball, a quest which helped me get back into the game after a long absence thanks to open-world busywork. But I didn’t expect her motherhood to play such an important role in her character development.

As soon as I met Kieran in Skyhold, I knew who he was. My heart jumped and my stomach dropped. What was this boy’s childhood like, consideriওng he has two souls inside him, presumably fighting for ascendency at all times? Organs already amiss, Morrigan arrived to explain the situation. She’s effectively homeschooled her Kieran, shielding him from his destiny and giving him the childhood that she missed out on.

Breaking Cycles Of Abuse

Morrigan and Kieran - Dragon Age Inquisition Cropped

Morrigan is desperate to give 𓂃her son a good chi💮ldhood. This hits so much harder when you think back to Origins and remember Morrigan’s own youth, which was torn from her by Flemeth, who raised and groomed her to steal her body. Seeing her and Kieran living happily in Skyhold affected me greatly, and her characterisation is very different from the Morrigan I remember.

Even before Kieran goes missing, Morrigan is incredibly protective of her son. I’d never have pinned her as a motherly type😼, but she’s warm and loving in a way that I connect to after becoming a parent myself. Having kids isn’t the be all and end all of our existence on this spinning rock, but it’s an experien🌺ce that is unlike any other. There is no comparison to the vortex of feelings that come with being a parent – for better and for worse – and to see Morrigan embrace her matriarchal role made me tear up. And then her son goes missing.

With the soul of an old god at home in his body, Kieran is called to the Fade through one of the eluvians that form such a crucial part of the game’s plot. When the Inquisitor and Morrigan chase after him, who else is inside but Flem🐻eth, Morrigan’s mother who made her life such a mis📖ery.

Kieran, the child of Morrigan, as he appears in Dragon Age Inquisition

Morrigan is ready to give up everything to save Kieran’s life, including her own. This vulnerability is a side of the witch that we never see in Origins and it shows how far she’s come. She is desperate to ensure that Kieran’s life is better than her own, she 🐭has learned the lessons from how she was parented (through lies and deceit) in order to break the cycle of abuse. Challenging Flemeth in the Fade is the culmination of this break; Morrigan is facing her demons head on.

This emotional outburst from Morrigan has huge repercussions on my playthrough. I felt so protective of her and her relationship with Kieran that I drank from the Well of Sorrows. I know I have the mark of Andraste and am leading the fight against Corypheus, but Morrigan has her son now. Some things are more important, and I couldn’t risk the repercussions of losing Morrigan and havไing to deal with the fallout of an orphaned child.

I still want to♒ replay the decision to see what happens ꦍif Morrigan does drink from the Well.

Morrigan In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Morrigan in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

We know that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Morrigan will return in The Veilguard, but there’s a catch. Our world states and important decisions aren’t carrying over to t🔥he new game; only what we decided to do with Solas and the Inquisition matter now. But what about Morrigan?

Depending on your choice at the Well of Sorrows, Morrig🦩an may still be a humanoid witchy lady or may have transformed into a dragon. Shrek 2 taught me that dragons can make fine parents, but I’m not sure what this would mean for Kieran. And then there’s the fact that we don’t know if Kieran even exists in The Veilguard’s canon. There’s an op𒈔tion, if Morrigan isn’t romanced and your Warden decides to sacrifice themself (I think), where she doesn’t get pregnant and Kieran is expunged from Inquisition.

Morrigan in the Crossroads - Dragon Age Inquisition Cropped

After seeing Morrigan grow through parenthood, I’d be gutted if The Veilguard retconned Kieran completely. I highly doubt BioWare will bri🌸ng her back in dragon form, but I could see the developer taking the easy route out of removing this facet of her character either by writing Kieran out (he’s probably a late teenager by now, off fighting in the south or something) or by canonising the world state where Morrigan never gets pregnant.

I know that BioWare has said it won’t canonise any world state, but it has alrea♑dy made decisions that contradict potential player decisions in the past.

Morrigan’s character arc was one of my favourite parts of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and it would be a shame if BioWare ripped up all that hard work for The Veilguard. Her motherhood is as core part of her character as her own upbringing with Flemeth, and it’s one of the narrative threads I’m most excited to explore in the new game next month. Hopefu🅷lly BioWare understands this and keeps Kieran at the centre of Morrigan’s motivations no matter what else is going on.
