Side quests have some of tไhe best content in any Dragon Age game, and The Veilguard is no exception.
As you play through the main story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and its associated side quests, you’ll encounter seven dragons, and while you won’t need them all for the Bringing Down The Sky Trophy/Achievement, it’s still worth h🍌unting them all to prove yourself the ultimate Dragon Slayer. You know, after Taash.
7 Seartooth Vyrantis ಌ
The dragon you fight first will depend on whether you defend Minrathous or Treviso when the time comes. If you choose the former, you’ll face down Seartooth Vyrantis, 💃who in many ways is the most classic dragon on the list. Fire breathing with red tinted scales on its dark body, this is a dragon alright. It’s the perfect imagistic representation of a predator.
Neve is a teammate by default here, so taking it out with Cold attacks is the way to go - although you don’t actually take it out at first. Instead, you simply scare it off, setting up a showdown later. This comes🅷 in Fire And Ice, where you face not one, but 🦋two dragons…
6 🐭 Corius The Icetalon
If you instead opt to save Treviso, you will first fight the ice dragon Corius The Icetalon. It’s Lucanis by 𓃲default for this one, so you want to take Davrin along with you (Taash won’t be unlocked yet). Again, you fight it until it flies off, then take it on for real in Fire And Ice.
With its li𒐪ght blue tint and its ice bomb, Corius The Icetalon knows how to stay frosty. If this is your first draconic test in The Veilguard, it packs a punch. And if you need to wait until the double whammy, it hits twice as hard. These two dragons are both Blighted, 🍷too, so you see grotesque growths along their necks.
5 🔴 The Fangscorcher
The first of three dragons you'll hunt for Taash, the Fangscorcher sets up the Dragon King arc and puts Taash on a collision course with destiny. The Fangscorcher is a fire dragon, presumably one that scorches its own fangs, and thus is simila♍r to Seartooth Vyrantis. However, it's bulkier and more aggressive, taking more swi🔴pes as you get up close and rushing you far more often, so you'll need to be very agile.
Perhaps the most interesting this about this fight though is the setting. Taking place in a forest clearing in the dark, we see The Fangscorcher glow hot against the inky black of night, a fearsome devil in the pitch here to ܫburn us all down. It's also guarding a mighty impressive lair of gold (and defeating it comes with glory), so it's natural a Lord of Fortune like Taash would be interested.
4 ꧃ Kataranda The Stormrider
Taking place on a beach on the Rivaini Coast, Taash is right at home against Kataranda The Stormrider. It's the first of three lig💝htning dragons in the game, but despite being the easiest (the other two are very late-game bosses), it also makes the most interesting use of electricity. Because this is on the shore, it perches on a stone column in the ocean and electrifies all the water around it. Though there is some dry land to retreat to, it's a highly effective way of making the battlefield a danger.
It also has lightning bolts it can spit at you, and mauls you a lot throughout the battle, forcing you to dodge away. Of course, with the ocean crackling with elecricity, you're often dodging out of the frying p༺an and into... the ocean crackling with electricity.
3 Kaltenzahn 𒊎
Tඣhe final dragon in Taash's arc, this one defends the Dragon King itself, although ಌnot for long while you're around. Taking place in the secret locaton of Sharksmouth Caves, you're fighting a dragon on a crumbling stone platform inside a lava kingdom. It doesn't really get any more high fantasy than this, and as the finale of Taash's quest, the stakes are high. The lava's rough. But this dragon's ours.
Interestingly, despite this battle taking place inside a volcanic lair, Kaltenzahn is an ice dragon, making🐼 it a step up from Corius The Icetalon, in much the same way The Fangscorcher is a tougher Seartooth Vyrantis. On top of the ice bomb attacks, it can create a misty fog to disorient you, and sweeping blades of wind are fired at you throughout the battle, making it hard to take the fight to Kaltenzahn. Once you do ♛though, you can make the Dragon King pay.
2 💯 ꦏ The Formless One
This is the dragon you fight at the end of Pinnacle Of Its Kind, meaning you'll need to face three tough demons first. Sealed away in the Necropolis Halls, it is revealed that all three demons were part of the sam creature, whose chains have been broken and who can now escape - unless you can put it down first. Despite living in the🥃 Necropolis, it's actually a lightning dragon that strikes you with shocking bolts and by electrifiying the field around you. It can also summon skeletons, which fits a little more with its demonic origins.
But in fact, it's actually weakest against Necrotic damage, which might explain how the Mourn Watchers of the Necropols were able to capture it in the first place. Emmrich or Lucanis are the most effective against this beast, who might be the toughest dragon🅷 to fight in all of The Veilguard. Or maybe that honour goes elsewhere...
1 Mythal's Retribution
Once you have seen all the memories of Fen'Harel, you will discover a new truth about Mythal, and will need to obtain their Essence by fighting them in dragon form. While you will be told 'High Dragon Has Been Defeated' at the end of this bout, it is not required for the Bringing Down The Sky Trophy/Achievement. However, to have truly completed Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you might want to take Mythal on. Then again, to get every Trophy, you'll need to resolve this conflict peacefully. You will not get Clear Minds And Open Hearts Trophy/Achievement if you fight Mythal.
With that all out of the w☂ay, you'll need to make a choice between every Trophy and the coolest dragon fight in the♎ game. Mythal's Retribution is like a much stronger verison of The Formless - while both are lightning dragons, Mythal's Retribution will leave electric bombs around the field for you. However, she doesn't summon backup the way The Formless One does, so the demon might end up the hardest overall anyway. Happy hunting.
