When you get to fantasy, there are some cliches you always have to be prepared to see. The typical races of Humans, Dwarves, and Elves, have lots of magic, and a weirdly Euro-centric view of the world. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age revels in plenty of these tropes, though it introduces some unique aspꦦects of its own when it comes to Dwarves.

The foremost of these is in Dwarves' connection to magic. Or rather, lack thereof. In Dragon Age, Dwarves are completely incapable of performing magic meaning that should you choose to play as a Dwarf, you can only be a warrior or rogue, no exceptions. Why exactly is this the case though, and are there any Dwarves that break this rule?

Dwarves And Their Connection To Lyrium

To first understand why Dwarves can't use magic in the first place, we need a little background on Lyrium. This mineral, found in silvery-blue ore veins throughout Thedas' underground, is what allows Mages to more finely use magic. It is not strictly necessary for the use of magic, though to enact more powerful or pr♕olonged spells, it becomes essential.

While Lyrium can have adverse effects on Mages, such as transforming them or causing accidental demon summoning, it is not addictive. For Templars, the keepers of Mages, it can be extre𝔉mely addictive♔, and withdrawal symptoms can be lethal.

Important to note in all of this is that Lyrium cannot be consumed in its base ore form. This is where Dwarves factor in.

Raw Lyrium is lethal to Mages, toxic to almost everyone else, and only physically manageable by Dwarves. With Lyrium only found underground (or in The Fade), Dwarves are the only race of Thedas that naturally live around it, and have an innate resistance to it. This does not make them entir💖ely immune to it, though ill effects only come from prolonged exposure rather than immediate contact.

Most Lyrium is blue, thoug🍒h it can also be found in red variants. This version of Lyrium is harmful to everyone and is regular Lyri🦹um corrupted by the Blight.

With Mages and Templars both dependent on Lyrium, the Dwarven kingdoms have made themselves essential to the surface dwellers of Thedas despite having no 🐎use for Lyrium themselves, raw or processed.

Why Can't Dwarves Dream?

The implications of Lyrium would indicate that it has some inherent connection to magic, hence why Dwarves can handle it yet simultaneously have become immune to its power. This is furthered by another interesting fact - beyond the underground of Thedas, the Fade is the only other known location where Lyrium can be found. So what does that mean?

In Dragon Age, all magic is channelled through the Fade. Various groups wi🌞thin the game have differeဣnt religious beliefs about what this magic exactly is, though none deny that the Fade is where magic is drawn from.꧅ All dreams also take place within the Fade, with sleeping memories being the only time in which mos💛t people ever witness the Fade.

The Fade is physically separated from the living world by a barrier called the Veil. This stops corporeal travel, though spiritual movement is still possible in sel🐲ect circumstances.

Where do Dwarves fit in this? Well, they don't dream. They simply sleep and then wake up again. They never see spirits or demo⛄ns or the ethereal nature of the Fade.

Indeed, the only people who are conscious of the Fade are Mages who intentionally consume Lyrium so as to spiritually enter it in a form of lucid dreaming. Without a Mage, no one can consciously enter the Fade, but they can 💞feel its presence. Dwarves, without the help of a Mage, simply never witness the Fade at all.

This is not to say they cannot enter the Fade at all. Being an actual place, the Fade can be entered by a Dwarf, though it can only be achieved by traversing the Veil, which itself requires ꧃the help of a Mage. No amount of Dܫwarves could enter the Fade without them.

Can Some Dwarves Use Magic?

While traditionally and logically no Dwarf can use magic and never has in the known history of Thedas, there may be some oddities. Lyrium has one other use in the Dwarven kingdom of Orzammar and that is to create Memories. 'Memories', in this context, are like a living library managed by the Shaperate, runes🎃 formed from Lyrium that 🎐inscribe the actual memories of the individual in question.

The Shaperate are an academic caste in Orzammar that maintains all records of Dwarven society and are some of t💃he mos🔜t respected institutions as a result of this.

But the Shaperate, be it through accidents or malicious intent, can alter these memories. Being actual thoughts, they can be misinterpreted or even outright destroyed, as is the case fo🧔r those Dwarves who choose to live on the surface. Being so respected and claiming such a long historical lineage, they are simply believed at face value, and this allows many actual historical facts to be obscured.

In Dragon Age Inquisition's 'The Descent' DLC, the Inquisitor, alongside Shaper Valta, traverses the Deep Roads in search of an answer to the extreme earthquakes currently plaguing the area. At the end, you discover the Titans, a personified version of the Stone that Dwarves claim to be born of. Lyrium is the blood of the Titans and ancient Dwarves d🦹rank this raw Lyrium to sustain themselves.

Over time, this ceased to be for reasons unknown, though the presence of Lyrium in the Fade iꦗmplies that Titans are older than the♈ Veil.

Valta is affected by the resting Titan, and blasts th💜e Inquisitor away with what appears to be magic once she awakens. She refuses to call it as such, but it does open interesting implication༺s. Did the creation of the Veil cut off Dwarves from magic? Do Dwarves need to consume Lyrium raw to use magic and their natural immunity is meant to be a boon?

These are not questions we have the answer to at present, though Valta at least would seem to be the first Dwarf capable of actually casting magic.
