There’s always been a slight incongruity between 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Disney Lorcana and its starter decks. The game itself thrives on its connection to Disney, with each new set revealed leading into speculation for which ch🔴aracters or movies will be coming next. Big Tink and Flounder have both become icons of Lorcana, and the reveal of Atlantis for Into the Inklands was met with excitement. Characters make Lorcana go round.

And yet, the starter decks have always been all business. They’ve not really leaned into𝐆 the characters, instead focusing on iಌnk colour combinations and mechanics. I’ve always been less interested in the starter decks than the main set, because it doesn’t prioritise the Disney magic I love about the game. Fortunately, that’s all changed with Into the Inklands.

Like Rise of the Floodborn before it, Into the Inklands has two starter 🃏decks: Amber/Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire. They each contain a healthy mix of new cards and reprints from older sets, and, while one deck is definitely stronger than the other, you’re still getting a solid whack🌞 of cards for your money.

But, for the first time, Lorcana’s starter decks now also have actual them๊es to them. Characters have been put at the forefront of them, with DuckTales vs. TaleSpin being the perfect way to kickstart this new kind of deck.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ruby/Sapphire is the DuckTales deck, with a bit of Moana on top for good measure. You’ve got cards like Gyro Gearloose - Gadget Whiz, Della Duck - Unstoppable Mum, Webby Vanderquack - Enthusiastic Duck, Flintheart Glomgold - Lone Cheaterand, of course, Scrooge McDuck - Richest Duck in the Worldand his nephews making up a large portion of the deck. They come together to make a vague Item theme, wit🎉h lots of ways to play them for free or yank them back from the discard pile.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Amber/Emerald, meanwhile, is all about TaleSpin (and 101 Dalmatians). You’ve got Wildcat - Mechanicand Kit Cloudkicker - Tough Guyin abundance here, with the former’s ability serving as a counter to the DuckTales Item strategy. The fa𝄹ct that it shares a deck with 101 Dalmatians does crowd it out slightly in comparison to DuckTales, but there’s a definite theme between both decks, and you don’t see both TaleSpin and DuckTales together in either one.

It would be amazing if, in a few sets time, we start getting full theme decks. We’re likely almost at that point already wi🌄th series like Frozen, Peter Pan, and Beauty and the Beast, which have had plenty of cards. What better way of introducing someone to the game than han𝓀ding them a deck based on their favourite characters, and using that as the in to then learn the technicalities of ink colours and synergies?

It's still really early days for Lorcana, but it feels like Into the Inklands is where it’s beginning to find its footing and identity. Rise of the Floodborn was just more of The First Chapter, whereas the adventurous theme and location cards give Into the Inklands its own vibe we’ve not experienced before. These decks are part of that, too – now that it has a few sets under its belt and two whole sets of cards it can reprint from, Ravensburger is beginning to explore what it can do with these decks, and that seems to be making them as thematic and resonant⛄ as they are mechanically powerful.

I hope this isn’t just a happy accident, and that we see Lorcana embrace its characters and properties a bi🧸t more a🥂s we get more cards to play with. Who knows, maybe we’ll be seeing Recess versus Fillmore! decks in 2025, and Lorcana can finally become the perfect game it almost is.
