However, there are a few things to keep in mind when Tempering your geღar. Recklessly Tempering your equipment can leave you with stats that don't help your buil♑d, with no way to return your item to its original state. Below, we'll go over everything you need to know about Tempering your gear, including how to get and use Tempering Manuals.

What Is Tempering?

Tempering is the process of adding specific stats to a piece of gear by using Tempering Manuals. Each Tempering Manual has specific stats that it can grant to the item, and they are divided into six different categories, with some ca💯tegories of Manual only be🌱ing able to be applied to certain types of gear.

  • Weapons: Weapons only
  • Offensive: Weapons, Amulets, Rings, Gloves
  • Defensive: Amulets, Helms, Chest Armor, Pants
  • Utility: Amulets, Helms, Chest Armor, Gloves, Pants, Boots
  • Mobility: Amulets, Boots
  • Resource: Amulets, Rings

Tempering Manuals are stored in your Co🌼d♓ex of Power when you collect them.

To Temper your gear, simply head to any Blacksmith and select the Tempering option. Here, you can choose any piece of equipment, which will then show you which Tempering Recipes are compatible. Select the recipe, then pay some materials, and a random affix will be added to your gear.

First, however, you'll need to get your hands on some Tempering Manuals. Tempering Manuals come with three to six different stats that they can grant the piece of equipment. These stats are shown in ranges, so the exact value that is applied to the piece of equipment is random within that range.

Manuals also come in three rarities (Magic, Rare, and Legendary) with increasingly powerful stats. When you get a Tempering Manual of th🔜e same name but in a higher rarit🔴y, the lower-rarity version becomes obsolete.

There are some rules to keep in mind when Tempering your gear. Most importantly, you can only Temper most items with one additional stat, but Ancestral items can be Tempered with two stats. Additionally, you can't Temper Uniques at all.

When Tempering Ancestral items, you can't use the same Manual twice on the same item.

The most important thing to keep in mind when Tempering your gear is that there is a maximum number of times you can reroll a Tempered affix. For most items, the limit is five Tempering rerolls.

This means that after you've rerolled the same item five times, you will be stuck with whatever stat you rolled last. You'll w𓆉ant to𓂃 be very careful about Tempering your gear and fishing for higher stats, as you may end up with stats you don't want.

Tempered stats will increase when Masterworking an item.

How To Get Tempering Manuals

Tempering Manuals drop from any enemy in any World Tier. This means you will start collecting Tem🦩pering Manuals as soon as you start killing enemies. Of course, higher rarities of Tempering Manuals are harder to find.

You are more likely to get Tempering Manuals for your current class. For example, Sorcerers are more likely to find Tempering Manuals like Conjuration Efficiency, whereas Barbar♉ians are more likely to find Manuals like Berserking Fines💦se.

Also, once you obtain a Manual, it is essentially removed from the loot table. This prevents you from getting duplicate Tempering Manuals.

Once you obtain a Tempering Manual, you can use it an unlimited number of times.
